Hi Guys,

Just wanna hear from you, I got an e-mail from Afrihost informing me that Telkom has completed upgrading their lines, and that I now have a 2MB line, but to activate it i need to upgrade the line with Afrihost, at an additional cost of R100 per month. Which i did, as a 1MB line is not good for anything.
If i am not mistaken this Telkom upgrade cost them nothing, so why will the cost impact be carried through the user.

Anyone feel the same, or am I over-reacting?

I have uncapped package from them.

A 2mb line will cost the same as a 1mb line. You won't pay more.

Correct in actual fact Afrihost should not be changing any pricing only the line speeds will go up. Where I can see a price drop is with the 4Mbps lines. Previously the 4Mbps and 10Mbps line cost the same, but with the Telkom changes the 4Mbps lines should be cheaper than the 10Mbps lines.

So:

2Mbps = The old 1Mbps line price
4Mbps = The old 2Mbps line price
10Mbps = The old 4/10Mbps line price

Are you on an uncapped bundle?Do they want to charge you extra for upgrading your Account from 1Mbps to 2Mbps?
Otherwise you would be running a 1Mbps account on a 2 Mbps line.
That is probably what they want to charge you extra for.

Edit:Sorry.Missed that you mentioned uncapped.

The line is the same cost, but now your data is double the speed. The extra R100 is for the data portion, not the line portion.

Have a look at this stunning service from Afrihost.
This is a second time he just cut me off. Changed my bundle from 2mb to 4mb + 75Gb capped
and it was running on 4mb for 2 days then it was back down on 2mb on client zone.

So what's the verdict? Last time I spoke to them they confirmed that if you apply for a 1mb account they will automatically upgrade you to 2mb and you still pay the 1mb price.

I 'had to' upgrade to the 2MB line at an additional R200 pm, monthly now at R397. This is my question precisely, can they charge me for this or not?
the Ad Hoc deduction went off withing 5 minutes after doing the upgrade.

ok this is what they sent me:
Hi Paul
Telkom has recently upgraded their DSL Line Infrastructure. With this upgrade we are able to offer you lower prices on line rental and faster DSL speeds.
With the Telkom Line Upgrade your DSL line speed has been upgraded from 1Mbps to 2Mbps. But your current DSL Bundle only allows for speeds up to 1Mbps. This means that you will not be getting the full speeds of your upgraded line.
Your current DSL Bundle: Uncapped Bundle Costing R 297.00.
Upgrade your DSL Bundle and get
full advantage of your new line speed.
DSL Bundle: Up to 2Mbps
You Pay: R 397.00

so I chose to upgrade.

Does it look fine or should I query it?

It looks good. Like already mentioned you are paying more for the data portion and not the Telkom upgrade.

ISP's are not able to upgrade the data portion for free on their uncapped accounts due to the still crazy IPC cost's.
