I have had Afrihost LTE-A (Huawei B618 LTE-A Modem R999) 200GB package @ R845 p/m since Jan 2019.

The CellC connection I am getting is only 4G and not 4G+.

When I use a Vodacom sim in the router it locks onto 4G+ and the speeds are as promoted by Afrihost.
With the Cell C and only 4G, the speeds are terrible, especially internationally.

I signed up for LTE-A and Afrihost is not providing what they advertised.

Any thoughts on this?

It may be a signal quality issue with Cell C towers, have you checked your coverage?

I'm sorry that you are getting such terrible speeds with your fixed wireless package. I'm more than willing to help you sort this out. Please send me the ticket that you are referring to here and I'll take a look at what is going on.

Did you happen to include your physical address in this email at all?

Signal strength stats:
[LTE] [RSRP: -82, RSRQ: -10, RSSI: -59, SINR: 18] [1800 MHz, 10 MHz, 7B5F205]

I have tested a Rain sim too and only get LTE and not LTE-A.
The only sim that five me LTE-A is Vodacom.

There is probably nothing that Afrihost can do about it. My issue is that I am paying for a service that I am not receiving. If I am not getting LTE-A then why am I paying for it. Surely this is only fair - that I pay for what I get?

I don't believe the Cellc sim sold by the ISP's actually allow 4G+. To test it put a normal cellc prepaid simcard in and see if you get 4G+. For 4G+ to show on Cellc B1 and B3 needs to be aggregated then it will show 4G+

Afrihost is now reporting that the area is not covered for LTE-A, even when their coverage app/map shows it is covered. They also allowed me to sign up with LTE-A based on the fact that my area was covered.

This does not seem right - if the service does not perform as they promise they simply say its not covered in your area - surely there is a responsibility on their part to ensure they provide service to areas that they say are covered. Very weak on their part!

It is horrible to see that you are struggling here. You are more than welcome to send me a PM and I will get somebody to call you to help you sort this out. We can log this with Cell C for you.

Here is the response from Afrihost support:

Thank you for the mail.
Yes you show you have coverage, But it shows as Fixed Wireless LTE.
As you have said that "Average speeds remain device and coverage dependent."
And unfortunately you are in an area that covers only LTE and not LTE-A.
Should you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Have a great day.

What this means is the Afrihost LTE-Advanced is not really LTE-A. Even when their map says there is coverage in your area, this does not mean you actual will get what you are paying for.

Be warned... what Afrihosts offers is not always what you will get - I plan to move providers as soon as I can.

Hi @AfriNatic – please do your best to assist – Ticket #WTX-949-92303.

Looking forward to hearing your response.

Nice to see at least one ISP going the extra mile to help here I am with web Africa cellc fixed LTE and was told today after a year using the package that my area is no longer coveraged and that I should just cancel

That is not good news! Hope Afrihost prove to be different.
