AFRIHOST\MFN Issues

I have Re-Run speedtests just out of curiosity while the link was negotiating at Gigabit . I'm getting Around 800Mbps down and 90 - 100 mbps Up. I have a 1000/500 Package.
The connection is very unstable though ,Websites fail to open on the first try , so you have to refresh a few times before the pages load . This is for both Local and international content
Stuff like Youtube \ Netflix load at 480 and buffers .
Xbox \ Steam \ Epic Fails to open , you get errors about no network connection of something seems to be wrong with your connection or not connected to the internet .

Please can you reboot and do a speedtest again?

Apparently not .
So their equipment lasted 3 months (Fiber was installed in January 2024 ) and failed. And the client is now Liable for the hardware failure .

I have sent the escalation to our service delivery manager and cc'd Afrigirl. There is no fee to payable for a faulty ONT to be replaced if it's service impacting.

So i have a Calix 803G , We have run the tests connected Directly to the ONT so bypassing my Private gateway device . Also leaving my machine connected to the Calix , the maximum negotiated link speed reported by the Port is is 100Mbps . if i power cycle the Calix , the link speed returns to 1Gbps . this also happens intermittently , and it is not something I'm able to replicate on demand.

To ensure it is not hardware issues on my side , i have monitored my backup WAN connection on my Gateway , as you will see in some screenshots above , the link always shows as 1Gbps , but the Wan connected to the Calix drops down to 100mbps , i have replaced the cables with the specifications requested by Afrihost and noticed no improvement .

WAN0 = Afrihost\MFN(Calix 803)
WAN1 = Rain\Huawei(H112)

The connection from my machine to the gateway remains 1gbps

This happens when im connected Directly to the Calix803 as well .

Yes, so the Calix is quite fussy when it comes to cables. I know cause I have a 1Gbps line also and had similar issues. Any noise from bent or incorrectly crimped cables drops the speeds to 100Mbps.

I also have the Calix 803G v1 and it's quite reliable. It has a bug where if you flood it with TCP and UDP packets in quick succession the service and Ethernet light goes off but other than that it's quite reliable.

Let's wait for the feedback for the SDM and then get the ONT swapped for a new one and take it from there.

Hi

Just following up to see if the issue has been resolved after the ONT has been replaced?
Hi there .
Im still running a few tests. The ont was swapped . Link stability seems to be there . No more dropping to 100mbps.

Download speeds seems much better too.
Upload speeds have however tanked. So im not sure what the cause is .
