I've been using Afrihost Mobile since I moved into a complex where I can't get ADSL and I've never had an issue. I use the connection to download torrents every now and then and I've always had decent speed, but since Sunday the speed of torrents have dropped to 10kb/s. Is Afrihost throttling torrents now?

We don't shape any of our Mobile accounts, so strange you're seeing slow speeds.
Is if just your torrents that are slow or is it browsing and everything else too?
 
It's just torrents. I downloaded drivers and I got speed that I'm used to getting with AfriHost. Most of the online games I play use P2P for updates, so if I'm going to get the same speed that I'm getting with torrents, the updates will days
 
Try downloading a well seeded torrent, and if you using private trackers, you need to have a very good share ratio if you don't meet their criteria,sharing the private tracker they do enforce slow speeds on your account.
 
Is it on mifi? I had the same and read something about NAT issues on it so I popped my sim into a USB and got proper speeds

Yeah, it's on MiFi. I haven't tried downloading since posting here, but I will check it out tonight and try another modem if it does the same.

Cool. I am also busy working on another approach - to make the Mifi work properly - but I have yet to make too much headway. Real Work (argh!) got in the way.

That's not the issue. The problem is when a Torrent runs through an array of different wifi devices, there can be an issue where the NAT fails after a while. This has the effect of making it look like the torrent is slowing down or throttled. At least, this has been my experience. The MiFi device needs to be configured a bit or USB must be used.

I was at it on Sunday and Saturday and tbh, I don't know that my fix works. I will share in a little while and if others can try and report back, that'd be great.
 
there's a got episode that am keen on, and the mifi device is a mission to get the backcover off and swap out the sim card.

First off, adjust for your circumstances and network setup. I am on a Mac and I have my phone sometimes connecting to MiFi as well as GF's Mac sometimes and even my daughter will leech her dad's Afrihost from her phone. This means that the IP range is getting mixed up and assigned on the fly all the time. So, I created an Afrihost location on my Mac. On your OS, you will need to use a static IP address. And if more than one device connects I would recommend an IP on the upper end of the scale.

SCREEN 1: Log on to your MiFi Admin then go to:
SETTINGS >> WLAN >> DCHP. Take note of the End IP address.

SCREEN 2: Now, in your network setup, use that ending address as your machine's static IP adress. This shot is from my Mac but you get the drift. If you hace questions on this just shout and I am sure Win/Posix users will advise according to your OS.

SCREEN 3: This is for uTorrent. Dunno about others but I assume you can do similar. We need to determine the outgoing port. Go to Network settings and click Randomize Now. Take note of the resulting port. Mine is 12130. Make sure that Randomize port during launch is not selected. Also, the Automatically map setting - toggle it if this doesn't help.

SCREEN 4: Back to the MiFi. Settings >> Virtual Server. Click add then give it a name (called mine torrent), enter the random port you got above, and set the rest to those defaults in mine.

Restart MiFi after applying these settings. Also restart uTorrent and watch and let me know if you see an improvement.
 
OK, I dunno if it is working or not. My results, without the changes:

While the "Linux Distro" enjoyed a higher peak, it took just as long as the midget art movie. I will try another two [-]episodes of this show[/-] software distros using Transmission or another torrent app.
 
Do yourselfs a favour, get https://www.grabitjeeves.com account, download torrents via the acc and download from there via normal http traffic. R50 pm for 5gb storage and unlimited traffic. I have been using it for a few months and is 10x faster than trying to download torrents directly to my laptop.
