AfriHost Mobile and Torrents

Great ideas - but they don't address the problem. Torrent lockers are great for ADSL and for heavy 3G users but for the occasional user, the problem needs to be fixed, not substituted.

Torrents download fine for me with AH mobile. The only thing I've noticed is that occasionally if I have a torrent downloading, my http access is incredibly slow and the browsing session causes the torrent download speed to plummet. Other times I can do both without much issue.

Browsing seems better now (whilst torrenting) that I'm using a public DNS server...not sure if just coincidence.

May I ask which device you have?

The problem that we're experience here is that the torrent downloads fine for the first 30 to 50% and then just declines to almost zero bps and then fails to achieve original speeds. Stopping and restarting the torrent achieves the high speeds again.
 
Ah. This thread is misleadingly titled - it should be Mifi and Torrents. But it is interesting that dongle connected to the router (in other words, where the device is not directly connected to the machine) does not have this problem. That means that the MiFi is definitely the culprit here.

I'll give it a bash on my dongle plugged into a whizzy and make double-sure.
 
I get 1.4 Mbps on the more popular "Linux Distros" but else always around 1 Mbps which I am very happy with. With the Huawei E5331 Mifi.

Does the graph (see my pics above) show that it maintains that speed throughout? If so, would you mind sharing your settings with the rest of us?

Another thought that has occurred to me: For those who are having the issue, how many devices are connected to the MiFi?

My graph stays pretty constant, except if I browse heavy traffic sites, but haven't dl straight for too long since my cap would run out super fast. My settings are pretty much default. But one thing I have seen is if I set my upload limit to 0 kb/s or 1 kb/s it does appear to be wonky on some torrents but as soon as I set it to 10 kb/s boom, fast and constant speed like I mentioned previously. Didn't work like that when I had a land line but guess mobile works different in some way.

On your second question, I have my Mifi connected by USB to my PC, and then also phone and laptop connected to Mifi.
 
Have you tried running a few speed tests to check if those results are constant?
 
Numerous. I have determined that the issue lies with Wi-Fi connections on the mifi device. If you read the thread you will note that the problem is very specific. More diagnostic work is needed.

I am inclined to say that the NAT must be changed on the device..
Had the same issue, until port forwards where done, and the NAT changed from symmetric to cone
 
I think I've cracked it - a few other settings may be necessary. Will revert tomorrow morning. This post is just a reminder to me to update.
