Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

The only thing that worries me is that its the same Cell ID (same tower) that my Cell C sim connects to, which gives me 2mbps, so hopefully its just a case of MTN customers getting priority on the tower, if it stays like this it would be pretty impressive :)

I wonder what to do with 5 MTN cell towers an Afrihost MTN sim an MF286C device and speeds like these, my first 3 days with PureLTE are dismal. Did escalate it through the helpdesk but with my previous experience with MTN's useless connectivity department, who obviously did not call back or investigate anything, my hopes are low. Oh by the way, the above measurement was done in 2021, not it is not 2015 or earlier

Hi,

Please send me a pm with your email address so I can log a fault for you.

Auto should work the best but there is a few combo's you can try.

B1+B3 is the most popular.
B1 + B8
B3 + B8
B41

B41 is part of the temporary spectrum and even if you can't aggregate on Band 41 since MTN has 2 x temporary spectrum blocks rolled out currently it should still give you around 60-100Mbps due to it being a band that is not supported by a lot of devices especially ones on the approved list.

I have tested each of these bands with the following results:

Band 41 - Download 43.0Mbps Upload 8.32Mbps LTE+
Band 1+3 - Download 32.8Mbps Upload 40.9Mbps LTE
Band 1+8 - Download 6.78Mbps Upload 5.25Mbps LTE
Band 3+8 - Download 39.1Mbps Upload 25.1Mbps LTE+
Auto - Download 17.1Mbps Upload 28.8 Mbps LTE+

The SINR is bad range 4-7. The bands I set on my Huawei B525 router with the Android HUACtrl App. Why does Band 1+3 and Band 1+8 not show LTE+

They should. Sometimes 4G+/LTE+ only shows when you are transferring data. As much as you can try to force LTE+ it's up to the tower also to accept that also the router needs to support that aggregation. I believe the B525 does at least support b1+b3

I was really suprised by this. They upgraded this tower last month with new antennas and I am 200 meter from it. Also with data going over it no LTE+

The Band 41 result is quite surprising.

What is the signal stats on that?

I wonder by how much if any will a Huawei B618 router makes a difference compared my Huawei B525? Will there be a drastic speed improvement?

Well you would have the advantage of 4x4 mimo vs the 2x2 mimo you have now. If it will make a noticeable difference is difficult to say without testing.

Speaking of unlucky....technically I did signed up before 26 November 2021:unsure:
