Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

MTN has basically been down since thursday for me
Massive high latency (when it works)
and almost always no connectivity since thursday.
Afrihost, Supersonic, anything on MTN.

I thought Afrihost was close to resolving the issue. :(

Yup, I'm also seeing times of normal performance and times when it barely loads webpages.

Unfortunately the issue is not on our network and it's a switch that is congested from MTN Randburg to Teraco.

We are working with MTN to get the issue to see if we can get it resolved asap.
It's pretty shocking how this can happen.
While I know it's not specifically afrihost's problem - I'm absolutely cancelling all of my fixed LTE accounts as soon as I can get paratus to come through and stick down a satellite connection. I pay through the nose for all of these different contracts which barely ever work.

The connection in Rosebank, Cape Town is terrible today - lost connections and super slow. Anyone experiencing the same in the southern suburbs?

Speeds have been super slow since yesterday here in Durban

Hi,

MTN routes traffic for KZN to either JHB or CPT. The slow speeds is affecting JHB based traffic and only during the evening peak.

Sometimes to change the route the traffic goes you can disable the mobile data and enable it again in the router and do a trace route to 1.1.1.1 to see which route the traffic goes.

Unfortunately with Loadshedding increasing also there is some towers that go down and don't return after loadshedding is over. MTN is logging incidents of there towers contiuously for techs to attend to towers failing around SA.

Hi,

We are aware of an outage affecting MTN LTE and Mobile on the Afrihost network.

We are working on getting the issue resolved asap. Apologies for the issues experienced.

Speed test also Show BAD..

Could you please check for me if Cell-ID 221442 is working, cause that's the cell tower my external antenna was setup for and can't connect to it now..

Try filling the relevant details out & see if they get back to you :

MTN didn't follow up with feedback in my case, but I got @AfriNatic to provide me with it after about 10 days - this was when having similar issues about 2 years ago, now.

In my case, it was losing connection frequently every day ; I ended up cancelling and only moved back (from Telkom LTE through Axxess) after others complained, then Afrihost did something about it in collaboration with MTN & sorted out whatever was wrong.

We have both JHB and CPT routing.
@AfriNatic Why does my IP location always show JHB if I'm based in CT then? At bottom of Google search page as well.
I noticed too of late my ping is extremely slow, anything between 70 to a few 100ms which makes sense if it's being routed to Jhb first?!

Hello all, I am considering switching from Afrihost fibre to the 90 + 90 gb pure LTE package because this will save me around R350 a month. However I've been a bit put off by the issues reported in the last few pages of this forum, especially as I am in Rosebank, Cape Town just like one of the posters complaining here.

Can anyone advise on whether LTE is generally working well again in Cape Town Southern Suburbs, and what sort of speeds you get?

Best is to get an MTN SIM and test speeds on a few hundred MB's of data.

Will at least give you an indication of what to expect from Afrihost's Air Mobile setup.

Then you can order a SIM from Afrihost & first consider testing their 5 + 5 GB package ; if you do so this month, there's still time to upgrade to the 90 + 90 before start of next month AFAIK.

Can't speak for where you are but it was solid as anything where I am in PE until I cancelled the service a few months ago - reason was better pricing & more data on Telkom through Axxess (for 80 + 80).

The issues that were experienced at that time seems to have stabilised now and working pretty well. As you can see from my prevous post above the issue appeared between 8pm and 10pm in the evening. I am not in the Rosebank area but just slightly further north but experienced the same issues at that time.
