Afrihost MTN Fixed LTE-A Thread

The normal mtn sim with afrihost apn test over 50mbps.

But I will report back after the weekend

Oh yeah that graph matches my results. That massive spike at the beginning of a transfer then the fast drop to the bottom is not your usual "my connection is bad" case such as random throughput or consistent low throughput. This is something else entirely.

The max of 21Mbit is normal for me when I switch to Band 41+41. I will run another test using the fast bands sometime after midnight.

tagging @Afrigirl so she can maybe help you as well

AfriNatic looked into it for me and said they can't find anything that could cause it.

Update: Test after 2 AM

Oh look, didn't predict that result at all.
We also did some tester after midnight same thing spikes then goes way down, something wrong on mtn/afrihost side.

It happens on speedtest.net as well you can see how it shoot over 20mbps then it goes way down. I can take a video as well

We are actively trying to find the cause here but so far we can replicate the issue but can't find the cause yet.

Can always ask them to drive to the other side of the city with the router and see if the problems follows. Only problem is mtn might kick the sim of the network for moving so far away from the address.

At least this can rule out the tower in the area and show if its account bond

Im on 100Mbps uncapped mtn pure. Current usage at 370 Gb so under 500Gb limit. Speed test shows a spike in the start of well into the 20's then quickly drops to 10.7 for the remainder. Both up and down.

We are all having the same result, I am sure @Afrigirl and @AfriNatic will have a look monday you might want to send them a pm with account info to help you

Thanks, will do.
I did see you're all having the same issue, so thought I'd just add my name to the list ...

Hi guys, I'm also experiencing extremely slow download speeds for Afrihost Pure 5G uncapped (highest package). A few weeks ago, it was fine, not getting the rated speed but I would get anywhere from 40 to 80 Mbps. In the last week or so, I'm getting 5 to 15Mbps. I've tried it at different times during the day peak and off peak. Afrihost tried resetting my connection but it only got worse. So I'm also on the R950 package and while I very rarely even come close to 200MBps despite being in a very central location in Durban, I never used to get such low numbers like 5MBps etc. My router position hasn't changed either. I also tested it with a LAN cable directly.

Probably a lot of normies having the same issue but don't know any better. I took the free Router so I can have access to all the MTN bands but now I regret it because cancelling now means paying a R999 fee. Might be cheaper than wasting another 4 months on this.

Good morning, all.

We are replicating the issue on our LTE uncapped packages to determine where the fault lies. The matter has been escalated, and we will share feedback as soon as we receive it.

Glad I decided to catch up on this thread as I was pulling my hair out with the crap LTE speeds over the last week or two.

I usually get about 120Mbps down and 30Mbps up, however these last few weeks that has dropped to about 9Mbps down and 10Mbps up. Logged a ticket with Afrihost suuport this morning and they escalated to the LTE team.

Normal MTN simcard, and also Vodacom simcard, performs perfectly at 100Mbps+ so it's not a tower or congestion issue.

Hopefully, as Afrigirl mentioned above, the team will have it sorted out soon, I was about to just cancel the service but will hang on a bit to see whether it will be resolved.

Hi.

Yes, it is not a tower or congestion issue.
All our LTE packages are affected. The NOC team has scheduled a meeting with MTN.
