Anyone use the Afrihost news server with an uncapped account? Any reports/reviews on the experience ?
I'm thinking of moving to them, but I'd like to get an idea of what their shaping/throttling policies are like in this context.

Between 600 and 800KBps during the evenings. Not sure of daytime speeds.

I get 10Meg on it any time of the day.

On the uncapped home account I did a weekend of downloading Steam games and so that week they starting shaping me. I was on a 10meg account and during the day I couldn't download faster than about 40KBps from the news server...A lot of the downloads would also end up failing with bad blocks downloaded (can't quite remember what). I pretty much stayed shaped the entire week. Browsing and YouTube still worked great but any sort of downloading suffered.

I eventually switched over to the 4meg business uncapped as it was the same price as the 10meg home uncapped. It has been much more worth it in my opinion. If I have any downloads they normally run from midnight and then throughout the day while I'm at work so the drop in speed wasn't much of an issue. As long as I can stream in 720p I'm more or less happy

To give you an idea of my current speeds. From my download this morning:
"422MB Downloaded in 15 minutes 46 seconds at an average of 457 KB/s"

Pretty decent news server, not quite as good as IS but much better than the ****e mweb punts.

Full line speed when unshaped, and correct shaping line speed when shaped. It really works well

P.S Where are you located - as that will have a huge impact on your shaping experience
