Afrihost + Openserve 500Mbps Wonderboom?

Hi All,

I'm about 90% decided on ordering the above package and need your final thoughts please:

I work from home for a company based in London and we spend a lot of time on Zoom calls. I've been with Rain 5G for nearly 3 years and mostly happy, but loadshedding is getting me down. Also, extremely slow speeds when screen sharing through Zoom.

My speeds used to be on average - 200+Mbps up and 50+Mbps down, and now the upload is around 10Mbps - we're in a temporary location, so I don't want to spend too much time getting this sorted. I do need a more stable, reliable service and I'm hoping that the above will achieve this.

We also connect about 8 other devices (gaming, streaming and forex trading included) - usage 500gb+ per month - any advice will be highly appreciated?
 
If you have any specific questions I can assist with them otherwise anyone else on our 500Mbpswith Openserve can comment on their experience on the package.
 
I had Openserve 500mbps for a month last year, for experimental purposes.
It was very fast and very stable. Just ensure you have a decent 5G - gigabit - wifi router (and that you're close to it), or Gigabit ethernet.. I've noticed 2.4ghz wifi is a huge bottleneck on anything faster than 100mbps.

I'm using the one Afrihost provides and I don't have any issues with it.

I don't do enough bandwidth intensive tasks to appreciate the full 500mbps to make it worthwhile, so I'm back at 100mbps.
But even with 100mbps, I can share high res video via Zoom, Teams, Facetime, etc and never have isues, so at 500mbps, I'm sure you'll have a blast.

In the past 16 months with Openserve and Afrihost, I've only been down once, where it was an issue on their side (down for 6 hours).
The other time it went down was due to a tree falling on the line outside, but a technician came out in under 24 hours and we were up and running again in 40 minutes.

Also, it remains rock solid during loadshedding. We have an inverter to keep the wifi going, where both Rain and MTN died in the past.

I think Openserve Fibre will be a huge upgrade from Rain needless to say.

Thank you so much for your feedback - exactly what I need to make an informed decision.

But now that Metrofibre jumped on the bandwagon with 500Mbps and 1Gig offerings (at competitive prices), I wonder if Openserve will still be the better option?

Do you have both Metro and Openserve where you live?

What are you on about ... or you can't read between the lines :) I gave a local and London speedtest since the OP has offices based in London. The "Below 55/250" is "Below are speedtests for 500/250" The OP also read it as such.....
