so thinking about getting a afrihost 20gig account or digichillis R500 package. . .so any 1 have any experice with both?whitch is better?im currently leaning towards digichille because ive herd afrihosts diducts any extra cap you have uesd from the next month ,is this true?

Get DigiChilli's R300p/m package, its the same as the R500 package but only allows 1 concurrent connection, which is perfect if its just u using it. Otherwise u can get the R500 package and share with a friend R250 each

Yup its is true.

Id rather go with Digichilli to be honest. Im on an Afrihost 10gb account at the moment but I have heard many good things from people on Digichilli.

You can get both (as what was said above). Get the R300.00 account and then a smaller AfriHost account for redundancy in case anything goes wrong.

I have a similar problem. Telkom line upgrades are going to happen soon so I might find myself on a 1meg line but with a 256k ISP package (which would suck). Therefore, I think it's better to use Afrihost and get the most out of my line but on the other hand uncapped is pretty cool.

I'm probably gonna go with RavenServer's plan;)

What happened to all the wonderful stories of Seacom bandwidth giving good latencies to the UK? From what I have seen on MyBB the latencies are lower on SAT3/SAFE? I can currently get pings of 196ms to www.bbc.co.uk. Can DigiChilli beat this? It would be nice if someone could post some pings to www.bbc.co.uk

I would happily migrate to DigiChilli if the latancies are what they (Seacom) actually predicted. ie: 70-90 ms onw way trip to UK (if i remember correctly).

I'm on the trial and am getting line speed. It's working well now but there aren't many users on the network. Perhaps you should wait for feedback after it goes live- just to see how it copes with more people

man. . .so many damn things 2 worry about just to play mw online:p lol. . .cant wait 4 the day that i can get 8mb uncapped 4 500 bucks including line speeed :D thats the world i wanna live in

i would stick with afrihost for now

digichilli is not communicating with those who registered; does not reply to email (web form); and is silent on twitter and their Facebook group about the status of their launch.

and they say the following on their Facebook group:

“Digichilli is not an Internet Service Provider as reported in MyBroadband, but Digichili operates as a reseller in terms of the ECA (and is therefore license exempt), Digichili has a commercial resellers agreement in place with a Licensed operator through whom we receive the services that we resell, in conjunction with this Operator we have engineered a cost effect solution that has cumulated in us being able to bundle our products accordingly”
They Provide Internet Services, but are not (according to them) an Internet Service Provider, so you can not rely on ISPA's help should something go wrong!

they seem to need a lot more time to sort themselves out.

When exactly IS it going live? Phoned and can't get a straight answer out of them about an exact date.........I figured 1st of Dec (as a few other forumites told me) but clearly they don't want to sign anyone up yet?

guess when u practicly givn uncapped away theres gna b a downside. . .seems like we'll have wait and see what happens

Thank you for that Jacques. We are a registered ISP with ISPA and are therefore bound by their code of conduct. We're listed as a reseller for licensing reasons. Have a look on the ISPA website. I'd post a link but their website is down. Either IS or MTNNS.

Our Facebook and Twitter sites have been up to date since Wednesday. For someone that reads all the threads you've missed some info.

You may notice that I posted my view on the 1st of December (Tuesday). (before you updated the information)

I don't follow all the threads. I followed your web site and your Facebook group, and at that stage there was no communication from DigiChilli about that launch that was supposed to happen December.

(in fairness, you did not say when in December) ;)

Good luck with tomorrow. :)

Ok some help for a noob pls:

At work we are using Cybersmart 3GB 384kb connection with a 4 port router..
I'd like to switch us over the Digichilli R300 or R500, but do I need one or two concurrent connections, for us all to be able to browse/download etc as we have been doing?

You require only the 1 concurrent connection, assuming you will only be connecting from work.

I've got a 5GB Afrihost account and have absolutely no complaints. I'm watching digichilli with interest though as an uncapped account would be great, but I'm not in a hurry - I'll wait two or three months for the intial uptake to pass and for the network to settle down before making a decision.
