Hi,

I would respectfully @AfriNatic why the afrihost price is significantly higher for entry level fibre.
Fibre has been available for a year in my area but Im finally 2-3 months away from finishing my lte contract.

I've always been a fan of your company. I did try looking through the forums but there are mountains of threads and I guess my skills in searching need sharpening.

While I'm not on an entry level package, for me personally having access to @AfriNatic answering even the most technical questions on the forum, is most certainly worth the few extra rands for support and advice, vs other ISP's who you have to call to a call centre, wait 20 mins for an operator and hope you get somebody sharp enough who can handle your query.

Hi,

Do you have an example of where we are significantly higher?

Their pricing seems pretty in line with most other reputable ISPs.
R595 for 25/25 is pretty much the norm.

Also as @Skankhunt said, support is top-notch.

The reason WebAfrica and the others are cheaper is that they limit the upload speeds, which if you plan to work from home with multiple family members 5Mbit up might just not be enough.

Also in the end you get what you pay for.

Yep that's basically it, Afrihost's pricing is pretty much on par with quality ISP's and the others like (especially) WebAfrica makes you pay the difference in sanity levels.

I'm on the 25/25...prices are basically the same as most other providers. Plus, as mentioned, AH reps (well, @AfriNatic ) on the forum are super helpful.

Hi,

I just saw telkom for R449 for a similar product. But i like the fact that im not locked into 2 year contracts.

Also the general sentiment is positive.

While I am responding here - how long from the time I sign up to installation / activation?

Asking so that i can time my sign up to my lte contract ending.

Totally missed the the subject line.

On Openserve I think we are in line with most ISPs in terms of pricing.

We have very generous terms when it comes to Openserve installations, activations and router related benefits.

We have a fixed R999 6 months cancellation fee. We cover the install and the activation fee. We cover the router valued at R999 for free which is quite a nice model with wifi6 capabilities for free. We don't do the "free to use" model. We have quite a big Dev team that spends quite a lot of time in making the client experience as smooth as possible with ClientZone and an App to manage you service with a lot of automation.

We offer truly unlimited data. We won't phone you to ask you to reduce you data usage. We have a pretty impressive network with local caches with hardware we control like Akamai, Steam and Netflix. We have both IPv4 and native IPv6 support. Our support hours are Monday to Sunday 7am to 11pm at night including public holidays.

We have calculated the best rates that makes it feasible to offer the service and we confident in our offerings.

Telkom is subsiding the Openserve offer which they can do since they are the same company technically. Other ISPs selling for less are also making a loss on the entry level packages so those pricing will likely increase once they have reach set targets.

With regards to installation we have an API that places the order automatically after signup. The turn around time with Openserve is usually within a week but I've seen same day installations also happen it just depends on the technician availability at the time of the order but the install times are up to a week.

Why didn't I get the Wifi 6 with my install last year, I got nothing :crying::crying::crying::crying:

I am real happy with the service even though 500Mbps is ridiculous overkill for my needs but why not :):)

Never had any real issues, raak hout.

We recently replaced the WS5200 with a newer model WS7100 that offers Wifi6.

Can we trade in our old models for the new one since some of us signed up just before the new WiFi 6 models came in?
Don't think so :( See:

I was over at a friend this weekend who has MWEB 25/25 so either R399 or R499 they're paying, and let me just tell you:

Most ISPs have the entry price at R600 but what you get from Afrihost is just a cut above the rest. Firstly, MWEBs network was all over the place. you hardly or don't hit that 25down and the ping is atrocious. I did a speed.cloudflare.com and it pulled all the way from Joburg when we're in CPT. Tried a simple 1.5Gb torrent that would take about 8 minutes on my Afrihost, took over an hour + half with MWEB. Things just don't work as well. and this is besides the nonsense router you get. So all in all, paying that extra R100 for Afrihost is really a no brainer because you'd lose much more than save a R100 or two. @Mamajyot
