Afrihost - Really had enough....

So the automatic assumption is that its the ISP?
What are the rest of the network users doing when you are experiencing the speed problems?
Get one of them downloading torrents and kiss you bandwidth goodbye.
Do you have any form of QoS running?
Also "truly uncapped" does not exist in SA, at least not on something under R1k pm

Depends on speed, but no issues here, and I pay less than that.

Yes there is, Afrihost business.

Problems on IS, then MTN and now Vox? :D

Give Crystal Web Premium a shot.

They sell these bundle packages and say you can arrange the line with Telkom if you want. Yet you pay CW the adsl cost included.
Very confusing...

the way the bundle option works is, you can move your line to them and get your IS from them, however, to move the line to them you have got to cancel it with Telkom first, tell them to put you in the "holding pool", and once that is available in the pool, CW can then get access to it and then "manage" the line from there onwards... I would suggest rather leave your line with Telkom and just get the premium uncapped option, even if your line is with them, if there is a line fault, the most they can do is log it with Telkom and wait for a fix...

I'm thinking the same thing. Just get Telkom to upgrade the line.

All lines exist with Openserve now. So, leaving it with Telkom ISP is identical to how it works with any ISP these days...

1)'Telkom ISP' has never sold DSL lines. Telkom retail sells 'ECDSL' and can bundle 'Telkom ISP' accounts.

2)Yes, as of this month, technicians are now employed by Openserve. And as of about 3 months ago 'Telkom ISP' Operations has been employed by BCX.

But so far, nothing has changed regarding how products are sold. That might change in the future, but Openserve hasn't provided any detail on how thier model will change, and there are IT projects in the design phase for splitting Telkom and Openserve (currently a lot of systems serve both).

I heard that Axxis is doing some interesting things in the South African ISP game. I'm considering switching to them after my many, many mishaps with Telkom ADSL.

Tried them out. Not bad actually as long as you don't need to download - downloading, especially UseNet and P2P, is terrible.

Streaming, browsing, gaming however is all great. In fact if you don't download much they are the ISP I would recommend.
