Hi guys,

Have any of you been shaped at ridicules times by afrihost (Late at night, early hours of the morning) as I have and I am finding it extremely strange.

I moved last year October to Afrihost from Mweb and have thus far been enjoying their service but lately, for the past 2 weeks, I have not and due to this might be thinking of moving away.
Which others ISP's are worth viewing?

Thanks

Sounds like an exchange congestion problem you having.
My Afrihost rocks big time 24/7 and always has, and 80% of my downloads are p2p.
Try a free testing with WA or OW.

What region are you in and does the shaping report in the client zone tally up with your experience?

Judging by that comment (early hours), I concur with ProAsm that it might be Telkom related :(

One way to really know is to post a screen shot of your shaping status in the clientzone and then to run this tool when you're having issues:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/607090-quot-Is-it-my-Line-quot-Report-Tool?p=12372998

and why not, do this one too:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool

Also, do the same with your free 1GB capped account to compare (bearing in mind that if you do have line problems that when you make a new connection with another account, it can "mask" the problem, so is best to leave it logged in for an extended period of time (a few hours will suffice) and keep testing periodically. Then post the results here for us to peruse.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the help.
I am in Linksfield, Joburg and yes it does tally up.

I've spoken to Afriman and have sent him screen shots of the clientzone showing the shaping as well as the time but have yet to hear from him and its been about a week now.

As to your comment on the app to use, is there one that is compatible with Mac? As my whole house runs via IOS and therefore have no way in using that link.

It's my pleasure, happy to be of assistance :)

So, this confirms then that the northern IPC, that has had it's "upgrade" already, is suffering from early morning shaping which just reinforces my opinion that this policy that AH have adopted (with MTN) is not working.

It might work overseas where it doesn't take 6 months + to adjust their supply from their uplink providers (IPC), but, I'm sorry to say but here in good old SA (Telkom), it's clear that this strategy just doesn't work. T.I.A.

Side note: Zertop! Please create a mac version! :) (or at least a tutorial txt file explaining how to do it manually?)

Try this bro:

For a line test we want to continuously ping the 2nd hop which is what the line tool does.

Step 1:

Do a tracert to wherever and make a note of the 2nd hop's IP.

Step 2:

Then, in command prompt, do this:

ping -n 30 ipaddress

Then post the results.

What we looking for is consistency. If you have a line or exchange fault then you will see the latency jump around (obviously you have to do this with an idle network).

If it's stable, then you can blame the ISP and their shaping, and if you don't like it, don't waste your time arguing (support will blame everything under the sun except their shaping/contention issues and give you the run around (this is not specific to AH), and won't get better anytime soon, and is best to shop around for an ISP that doesn't give you a reason to deal with support.

From my experience, it's best to try them all yourself and choose the one that suites your needs the best, as we are all different and have different requirements :)
