Somewhere far far away.
Had to make 1 of these as well.

I am even having extreme buffering problems on youtube as well these whole week allmost. Http downloads = useless slow. Most downloads don't even reach close to 100kb/s closes to that is about 60 - 70kb/s on a 4MB line this is.

Wow really makes me glad to be paying so much more a month. I'm really considering going to Axxess with their R19 a gig option. Have been having really bad speed for allmost 3 weeks now.

What about the rest of you?? I was happy with Afrihost since they started the R29 a gig, but lately this is too bad having to suffer like this.

Since the beginning of May, my 4MB connection with Afrihost has gone to sh.t. At best, I get 50Kb/s with latencies close to 2sec.

Waste of time and waste of money.

I dumped Afrihost and have switched back to Vodacom 3G. Suddenly VC's crap service feels wonderful in comparison.

Stay away from Afrihost. It'll cut years off your life expectancy.

I'm on Afrihost prepaid and I'm not happy either. Once this 2Gb of bandwith runs out I'm going back to WebAfrica. I find streaming audio and video much smoother with WA.

Ah! Nice to see my started trend pick-up some steam. On-topic, blame latency bro, Uncapped internet is NOT cool when your network cannot support the load. ^____^)b

For those that are having speed problems try reading the status alerts on Afrihost’s main page.
As for me I’m real happy with my download speeds even after passing the first gate of 50GB where certain ports will be shaped more aggressively ;)

ALERT: International consumer ADSL access

Last updated: 17h30, 13th May 2010
International ADSL access is currently suffering from degradation and increased latency.
Our upstream provider is currently implementing upgrades to the international path.
We sincerely apologize for the disruption in service and we thank you for your patience.

Yeah, thanks BlackDragon. I did read the status message. My problem was not temporary problems - it was permanent. It was ALWAYS bad. Only status alert for that is, "sorry guys, due to our crap service we've decided to go into catering instead."

Afrihost is a piece of *****. This is my last month with them.

Afrihost huge speed drops

Hey guys I just started Afrihost and was getting a really decent 400 kb/s torrents downloads for most of the week. Suddenly dropped to around 30 kb/s from yesterday (21/05/10) Anyone else have such a large drop? Getting 3.36 d/l on speedtest.

I wanted to cancel Afrihost, but the last week I got very good speeds on torrents (250 - 380 kb/s) on a capped account, so I will stay with them.

I've complained a couple of times on this forum about Afrihosts slow Youtube speeds. I have dumped them now and am with MWEB. So much better. No more buffering of Youtube videos.

I have just cancelled my Afrihost account for exactly the same reason.

Using a 4Mb connection:

1. Ran a speedtest via Afrihost - speed reported 0.81Mb.
2. Immediately switched to WebAfrica and ran speedtest - speed reported 3.48Mb.

I have twice reported the issue. Afrihost support are very pleasant to deal with. However, their comments are limited to "the issue lies with our supplier (i.e. Internet Solutions) Until they sort themselves out we are f**ked"

My last download via Afrihost max'd at 0.18Mb ...
