I am so gatvol with the damn slow speeds 4-6kbs!!! After complaining to support via email i recieved the following from Afrihost Support. Now my speed is normal again on my 4meg line. For How Long???

Hi there SatPlanet

Trust you are well :)
Thank you for the mail.

PLEASE NOTE: These are our current settings for the Uncapped 4096kbps accounts we plan to use - however, they may change in the future.

This is our first iteration of a brand new product and we are learning as we go - We are hoping to refine this and over time make the limitations less
===============

On signing up to our Uncapped product you will get our standard ADSL service. (i.e. certain ports are shaped somewhat and web and email are prioritised.)

After you have moved 30 GBs you will be moved into a different category whereby certain ports will be shaped more aggressively. However, web and email will still be prioritised.

After moving a total of 60 GBs you will be moved into a different category where your line speed is throttled to 1024 kbps per second and certain shaping protocols are in place.

After moving a total of 90 GBs then you will be moved into a category where you will be throttled to 512 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 120 GBs you will be moved into a category where your line will be throttled to 386 kbps. Certain shaping protocols will also be in place here.

After moving a total of 150 GBs you will be moved into a category where you are throttled to 128 kbps.

You will never be capped.

If you use this account for heavy downloading then you WILL be throttled at some point in the month so please think about whether this account is for you.

Please note: The above explanation is how we are currently planning on dealing with accounts from April but we do reserve the right to change these at any time - The bottom line is that if you intend to use this account for heavy downloading you will be shaped and throttled at some time.

Kindly note that refunds of the Uncapped ADSL accounts is valid only for clients that signed up before 1st April.
We realize our shaping policies were not very clear to our clients before the 1st of April.

If you signed up on the 1st April or after & would still like to cancel your Uncapped account; there will be no refunds.
The cancellations can be done from the ClientZone: https://clientzone.afrihost.com
Under My Connectivity you'll see a cancellation button & you can choose the effective date of cancellation.

Please let us know if there's still anything we can do to change your mind.

Thank you and take care :)

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Shakeel

Say you pay R200 pm for a 384 uncapped service, you're getting 30GB at a price of R6.66 (<<< ??? 666 ??? LOL) per GB. Not bad.
(On 384, they drop your speed after hitting 30GB )

I agree. This is old news. Afrihost has the decency to admit it's a new product and they are working on it to make it better. Hats off Afrihost.

True.. But you heavily shaped before that...
This is how we are currently dealing with our Uncapped 384kbps accounts:

WTF, why are there two different types of T&Cs? I'm not yet signed up to a uncapped service and have been scouring these forums for a while and noticed that Afrihost has had the worst customer service. Sorry you will not be getting my money.

Hmm, I don't think they have the worst service. I know there were a few complaints that were thrown around when the R29 deal came out, but most were shot down, and the people who brought them to the forum were often critisized for the nature of their complaint. On the other hand, the number of complaints have esculated a lot since the uncapped accounts started being issued. Unfortunately Afrihost are doing what a lot of other ISP's are doing to try make money from a cheap uncapped product, and they are not doing such a great job. But, I certainly wouldn't say they have the worst customer service.

Hi All

I think we have to re think the jargon, as of now it is going to be a case of do you have shaped or unshaped? The capped / un-capped is a thing of the past if you are a power user.

They're making it better? Seems to be going the other way to me. Afrihost advertised this product falsely and are playing the duck & dive game at the moment, keep you hats on they don't deserve the salute.

Some goods news: Just got off the phone with Mark at Afrihost. We are now only being shaped on a 4096kbps line after 100 gigs :) Afrihost FTW!

Probably made a list of the heavy users that left and can now open the throttle for the new and remaining customers until the temptation of unshaped bandwidth transforms some of the webrowsers to power users.

You sure about this? We on Afrihost uncapped and I'm getting ready to download Ubuntu 10.04. :)

I will have to wait and see...there has been too many negative comment over the last few weeks. 100gbs is still a bit MEH. They shouldn't down throttle me if I'm paying for an uncapped service of 4096kbps. I can understand shaping, coz that's "fair usage". but throttling me down to a lower speed for paying for a top end service is just wrong.
