Hey guys, i have recently joined adsl and previously used telkom mobile 60+60gig.i choose Afrihost due to its popularity on mybroadband.i have a 50gig capped account and my line speed is 2mb.I find downloads to be terribly slow.e.g if i download a file from a fileserver,i get speeds of 5~20kbps and it jumps to 100kpbs for a few seconds.the file server doesnt limit speed as i use to get speeds of between 200-300kbps on telkom mobile 3g.if download a windows update etc. it doesnt seem to be terribly slow.i tried to do a ps3 update on afrihost today and it took 30mins to download a 22mb file,i am on a capped account so i dont understand.i have done a speed test on the line and get a 1.5mb dwnload and a 300kb upload speed.can anybody explain to me what is possibly happening ,as i am new to adsl.thanx in advanced

What speed do you get on a speedtest? http://www.speedtest.net/

The only shaped capped accounts I know of are on WebAfrica.

There's likely another explanation.

Im having the same problem. 10 meg line giving 4Mb/s on speedtest and 20KB/s on doenloads now. It all started last week when they had the authentication problems.

Do a traceroute, if it's slow at the 2nd or 3rd hop then it may be the exchange

Seems quick?

I did a speed test and got the following results: ping - 33ms
download speed - 1.68mbps
upload - 0.38mbps.

i have a 2mb line so these results seem okish,i guess but the speedtest selected a durban server(will this improve results cos i live in durban)

thanx to all of u dudes for replying so swiftly to my thread.

i have updated the software on the netgear n2200v4 and pressed reset button.this hasnt made much of a difference.i used a netgear genie app on my android and did a reboot but still no difference.

i watched a few youtube clips on the ps3 and it didnt need much buffering.youtube is acceptable but i am still getting download speeds of 5-20kbps.

i have very limited technical knowledge so i appreciate the feedback.
