Hello gents,

Switched over to Afrihost a while ago from Openweb. Wasn't disappointed till the other day when I probably reached a soft cap and couldnt download 50mb of torrents during an entire day and night... So I switched to the business uncapped 2mb, no change. Waited for the new month so maybe the soft cap would go away?...its the 5th and so far I think i've gotten to about 500mb's of bits and pieces. Never experienced this and all of a sudden it would seem there is 0 priority. Did I miss a meeting? Secondly, what would be the best isp/package to go for so I can get my torrents going?

Thanks,

H

Hi there.

Shaping applied in clientzone when these slow speeds were experienced? When you switched to business account did you run speedtests, tracert's to local and international sites to troubleshoot where and if latency was/is involved, checked other direct downloads, torrents or videos?

Post is extremely vague with little to no detail on any fault finding done.
Post some more detail and results and we can try and figure this one out as being on a business account you should not be getting any speed issues.

I'd start by posting tracert's to local and international sites.

go to the client zone, then connectivity, select your data package, then make sure that protocol prioritisation is deactivated.

Well, sorry for the vagueness of my post. I most certainly ran the basic tests before just switching from normal to business. Not much improved on the speedtest if at all, with minor improvement on the latency. And all the tracerts I've run look basically identical. Direct downloads and the normal stuff like youtube and facebook are all spot on.

Ps. Cant find anything under "My connectivity" in clientzone that mention the word shaping or prioritizing?

Are you using the new clientzone Beta? And as Nduimiso pointed out - switch OFF protocol prioritisation. This is a feature being switched on by default for new Business users to protect their business lines from employees using it to torrent etc. You are clearly a home using the Business package and therefor don't need this on :)

Hi Orihalcon,

Thanks I see now, and I disabled the prioritization nonsense. The only real reason I switched to the business package was so that my daytime use wouldnt be limited in any way. Or am I under a false pretense here?

Please Post your tracert results. I had a similer problem on my business uncapped line a few weeks ago. Had enough bandwidth for you youtube and minor downloads but torrent were seriouly underperforming. It turned out there was a fault on my Telkom line. had it sorted by telkom in 2 days. So please past your tracert result and we will assist
