Haha, if only it was that simpleAgain, initially we needed to look at a lot more options that were on the cards. The more we looked at the results, the more we saw the need for additional capacity. Not every IPC glitch can be solved with additional capacity I'm afraid
Yep agreed, glad we have a clear path now. Hope the capacity will be increased soon

Telkom has a network freeze over December, so that could be tricky
True dat. But o well, atleast we know something is being done and what is being done.

Why didn't you try a different ISP for November? You had the chance to move

Doesn't mean I have to stand idly by whilst being supplied a **** service.

That's just stupid... shaping is activated if you HAVE network problems (low on capacity) to lower the impact of the problem. Doesn't mean you don't have a problem. Sorry to be bitchy about it, but having P2P throttled to 6.25% over days is NOT acceptable and lowers the value of my monthly payments considerably. I could live for a certain period with 50% but 6.25% is just ridiculous.
By the way, did you know that the High Court in Germany ruled that throttling or shaping ADSL offers advertised as uncapped to be unlawful? Just to bring some perspective...

That just makes no sense. You know, most people vote with their wallets. You seem to enjoy having something to complain about

Do you propose to know what my reasons are for not particularly wanting to support any other ISP? Are you saying you can categorically state that, my perspective and opinions considered, sticking with Afrihost is not actually precisely an act of voting with my wallet?
I will complain over **** service, and I will commend good service. You can keep flopping from one provider to the next on a whim if you so choose.

If they are being shaped they won't get full line speed 24/7...
They are bypassing your shaping ruining the network for everyone and instead of enforcing your AUP on them you use it to "brag" about how good your network is.
I would like to be informed the day the shaping is lifted to pre 19 Sept 2013 states. I will move my line back to the home account immediately

We don't have any concrete proof that they are bypassing our shaping or violating our AUP in any way. We monitor this quite closely and everything is above board.

Yes I am aware of that ruling. And if we had the same fiber infrastructure in SA that would be pretty amazing. We don't however.
The same for the available bandwidth that every ISP has to work with and that they provision. It is, in our case, a finite resource that has to be managed. What has happened here is simple;
Capacity exceeded the demand most of the time. All happy customers.
Demand increased -> Shaping does it's job to make sure real-time services run at 100% all the time given available capacity -> unhappy clients.
You cannot maintain a stand point that the fact that shaping is being applied means the core network has a problem. It simply doesn't. It is the case however that demand currently forces the Afrihost's shaping policy to apply such heavy shaping most of the time. That's it. This has always been their policy. The fact that it needed to be aggressively applied for once is simply a fact of growing usage. The answer here is increased capacity and better management system (read optimise the current one).
