Ha! Did the same test now on my side. Switched to my capped 1gb afri account and lo and behold Bitmeter reports average upwards of 250kBs! Flawless perf on twitch on same video that suffered on uncapped.

Therefor...a problem on the uncapped side of things of how traffic gets routed.

And watching the IEM Innovasion vs Curious Sc2 match.

So why the heck is uncapped being hit so hard? Also have no shaping showing on my account?

Innovation dropped back to code A yesterday :D :D :D I HATE THAT GUY!!! HE'S SO OVERRATED!! I HATE OVERRATED PLAYERS LIKE FLASH AND LIFE.

Heard he dropped yes hehe.

Following the WCS EU games closely now and really want to see a MC vs DuckDeok matchup :D

And back on twitch issue. Switch back to uncapped...same problem. Some few speed peaks but the average hovers around the 120Kb range. Eiya.

AfriMan...crack the whip there and send the tech drones to investigate :p

(I am a tech drone myself so no disrespect intended hehe)

I can't see him making it to the WCS S3 finals :D

Yeah, Twitch.tv used to be lag-free until a few months ago when I made a switch from MWEB to Openweb in last May.

I am not shaped. But my download is running very erratically. Goes to 198kb/s then drops to 100kb/s, then back up to 120kb/s and then back down to under 100kb/s. Then the same pattern continues. So it is quite crappy still.

O, and it is on the 2mb uncapped account

Concur. I'm still seeing only 100 to 130'ish kB/s on single-threaded downloads, which was never the case in the past. I have the Android SDK coming in at a solid 400+, but that's through a download manager.

Still fabulous compared to the past week, of course.

Me too. Downloading at 70 KB/s on uncapped, 105 KB/s on capped. Just finished a 990 Mb download which took 5 hours 10 min which by my reckoning is 53 KB/s average (correct me someone if the maths are wrong). This ties in with the speed shown while downloading. Client zone showing no shaping all through this download - are we still being shaped but being lied to in the client zone?

Remember your exchange also plays a big part, from what I have seen personally, DSLAM's/IMAX/MSAN divide available capacity between everyone connected to it.

So if your exchange only has 20mbps total capacity it is divided.

Might not be Afrihost shaping it might be contention at play.

I hear what you are saying but as soon as I switch to an afrihost capped account it goes at full speed, back to uncapped and back to 7oKB/s so it is not a congestion issue.

@afriman

Do you have any idea as to why supersport is constantly lagging if I connect using uncapped 1 meg, but works without problems when connected via 1MG free capped?

My clientzone says:
Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied

So there's some difference between uncapped and capped throughput?

/edit
So then I try and watch a TED video, but once again buffering is bad. So I decide to download the video and the download keeps failing. At best it runs at 58KB

So then I connect with the last gasps of my Mweb account, the Mweb I left for Afrihost due to their unacceptable throttling policy, and the file downloads at 90+KB

Now I'm a bit concerned, is Afrihost a good choice?

/edit
Yay, dunno what you've done, but now things are working as I expected! Happiness.

Do you know what it feels like watching the footy, and the moment a shot at goal is taken , the screen freezes and you get a popup on your tv that says "buffering..."?

It's happening on other ISP accounts too, so it's not on AH's side.

Getting very erratic download speeds. Last night things were flying and on speedtest I got a 8,49 Mbps result. Now it is hovering at 5 or so and my download at 70kbps (last night 400 - 600).

What could be causing this? It says I am not shaped. Only got up and running yesterday

I'm wondering if youtube streaming would work better on a business account:

2 gig battlefield three update for my girlfriend and its on 3 hours now on my 10 meg line and is only on 57 percent. Last night I finished a three gig torrent in under an hour. What changed?

Well it seems that my earlier belief that I was running on the Business account was incorrect. I am getting 50% of my 2meg line. Very disappointing that it should take this long to do what I believe is an automatic upgrade. In the age of computers it is crazy to think that a simple account change could take so long.
