Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

What's worse is that we can't cancel with immediate effect. We have to give 30 days notice bs. I wanna change now. :/

If you cancel now your service will be ended at the end of October. They clearly state that if you want to cancel do it before the 25th of the month. If you canceled on the 24th you service would have ended tonight.

And what the hell is wrong with them merely enforcing their AUP now that is has for once become needed?
What's 'wrong' with it? Technically nothing, of course. What's sad about it? The once sole ISP not reliant on their AUP to excuse poor performance teetering on the edge of becoming just another MWeb.

Good heaven people would think the world is ending. I understand and am frustrated myself that they are shaping so strongly after the many months of little to no shaping. If you don't like it, move. Easy as that.
As I've stated many, many times before Afrihost is really the only ISP I've been quite happy to give my money to. That does not, however, imply that I'm meant to just sit quietly waiting for their service levels to return to their previous superb levels.

I am sure they are aware of the issues and are trying to streamline it as best as possible. If that is not good enough for you - click cancel and be gone.
I'll share your opinion once I see some actual progress made. So far every day has become progressively worse since the proverbial excrement hit the fan.

Since when has it become unacceptable to voice complaints over service which does not toe the line?
As HapticSimian has pointed out, we would like to see some progress or feedback.

Not knowing and ignoring your customers just makes things worse.

Most, if not all the peeps complaining here have read and understood the AUP, we don't need to have it shoved down our throats instead of admitting that there is a problem with their network or the MTN backbone.

Yip, unfortunately service levels in general has dropped in SA.

My car is in for some major repairs at the agents(under Automotion plan) now for 2 weeks. I, must ask for feedback. They are not providing feedback on their own. Apparently the parts are arriving from Germany today. Hopefully I will get my car back tomorrow.

Agreed, the shaping irritated me so I went to a business account for R100 more and now I am running all my downloads at full line speed.

Kinda told you so...
For my own personal interest can you post up your tracert? I won't be offended if you tell me to get lost, you have just been very vocal and for my own interests I would like to know that your issues are entirely AH's fault or if you are having a bit of congestion at the exchange.
On another note do you work from home? I only ask because you are online every day and complaining about your ADSL speeds.

Eish.... that's a *** one dude. Sorry man.
Hope it works out...

Go to the client zone and change your package from uncapped to the 1 Gb free account - that should take effect from 1st Oct. Haven't tried it this way round but that is what I did with my wife's capped account when I moved my account to uncapped and it worked then.

Well I just told a friend who is looking to switch from Telkom, to avoid AfriHost after originally recommending it.

Shaping to 25% is far too extreme and just reeks of capacity issues. I don't care what they say.

I'll wait for a month and then cancel. See if their double your money back clause is also BS.

Ouch:

4mbp uncapped, done 38.6 Gb and it's the 30th.

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Too many people signed up for the Mobile data methinks...

Nope, mobile data has nothing to do with it.
I doubt it even touches the Afrihost network. Remember, Afrihost is reselling an MTN product - they do not have any GSM infrastructure.

Howsit. Don't normally work from home, but I have been working from home for the last week and a bit due to renovations at our office. It has been excruciating. See tracert below..

Your exchange is beautiful from what I can tell. Probably has flowers all around it and bunny rabbits hoping hither and thither delighting in the congestion free glory. Its very weird that I was getting decent speeds on my line through real time services when I was on shaped and you aren't.

Guys,
Stupid question - but is Netflix regarded as a real-time service?

I battle to get to 720p, but with Mweb (I hate to say it) it streamed happily at 720p, and sometimes at 1080p; and that was with a 4Mb Premium Uncapped.
I've now got a 10Mb Uncapped with AH.

Unfortunately that is the reason I cancelled my Afri 10mb account today.... Cannot get more then 720p on UK, and 420 on US.

Tested on another ISP and get 1080p Super HD with no problem.

Do you really think the extreme shaping is fair? Why sell a product that is unusable some days? You have to complain if you are a customer so that the company notices. If you only get a couple people it gets swept under the rug - so if you are unhappy and you not getting what you paid for then I say you have the right to complain. I know that you say that if you are unhappy then click cancel and leave. It does sound easy - but that should not be solution. I actually think that anyone that actually researches an ISP before joining them would check the site and forum and see what is going down at Afrihost. Do not walk around blind and accepting - take a stand against bad service.

To be fair, Afri did try help, giving me trail account then a business uncapped. But no difference.
Being the 30th, I am not paying another month for them to hopefully sort it.
