Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Unfortunately that is the reason I cancelled my Afri 10mb account today.... Cannot get more then 720p on UK, and 420 on US.

Tested on another ISP and get 1080p Super HD with no problem.

Sad but true...
Which ISP did you manage to get Super HD on with no issues?
I assume you're also on a 10Mb line?

I'm guessing you'll probably be able to stream 3D on this ISP as well....
Without a steady connection on AH, streaming 3D is a pipe dream.

Yup, 10mb line, and 3D I half got working, but UK is much faster then US, so 3D is still sorta off the table till 3D comes to UK.

I'm using US, but worth a shot to try UK and see how that runs. Should be the same content minus 3D.

You'll be surprised how much better UK is, content can be quite different though, I switch often.
 
Bizarre, seeing that - as far as I have it - Axxess and Afrihost are two faces of the same company, offering pretty much identical services.

Yes, very odd that they are both using MTN bandwidth, but I also have a colleague using Netflix on Axxess, he says most of the time it runs like a dream, but sometimes he does have the occasional slow day.

I'm trying to go through as many posts as possible - everyone should get a reply :)

To touch on shaping, our team is still reviewing the policies on our end. As soon as I have any feedback from them I'll have it posted. So far though, no issues with the shaping policies themselves.
We're still seeing a higher demand than usual but there are some small marked improvements.

Well it seems that my earlier belief that I was running on the Business account was incorrect. I am getting 50% of my 2meg line. Very disappointing that it should take this long to do what I believe is an automatic upgrade. In the age of computers it is crazy to think that a simple account change could take so long.

My account is still shaped, even though it hasn't been used for over three days.

So no, no improvement.
 
Don't think my issues are exchange. I've been getting timeouts in the middle the entire evening. Similar to what I got last week.

Afriman, I need a reply , Clientzone says no shaping, HTTP download at 120kBps, switch to a different account (Openweb Trial) and suddenly speeds jump to 200kBps. There is somethin seriously wrong here

Have you noticed any improvement here?
Shaping does cover HTTP, but only kicks in once shaping does. Let me know if you're still seeing these issues :)
 
It's happening again... Speeds are all over the place!! 160kb/s, then 280kb/s, then back down to 120kb/s. This ain't right.

There must be some sort of shaping or QoS going on somewhere... :mad:

From the looks of your traceroute it looks as though your exchange may be seeing some issues/ congestion here. The 2nd hop is supposed to see fairly low, consistent response times.
Please PM me your ADSL number and I'll get this checked out if you're still noticing erratic speeds.

Girlfriend is at home and says it is like the internet is OFF! she needs to use it for work! WTF

Shaping shouldn't be affecting realtime services, and definitely not the overall connectivity either.
Please drop me a PM with your details and I'll run a few checks on my end for you.
 
It quiet here without Afriguy and Afriman. Maybe Gian shaped them. :)

Afriguy last posted on Friday night and Afriman on Saturday morning.

We're still around, just quite busy today :)
We do try and post as much as absolutely possible, even over the weekends - but we're guaranteed to be here from Monday - Friday.
 
So I think this is the end. No BF4 or downloading for me. My ping is "out of this worldly good" and I am shaped to hell and back. Afrihost has just gone for a ball of ****!!!

I've noticed you've been posted a lot in this thread, it seems like it's out of frustration. Off the bat, I fully understand that you are - and that you're not used to this level of shaping.
While your frustrations are justified, I don't think personally attacking us is. Let's try and come to a solution here.

We're doing everything we can to shape the smallest amount of clients as absolutely possible. Along with this, we have a team running through our shaping policies as we speak. If you're seeing a worse/ poorer experience than every else please PM me ASAP so I can take a look at this - as a line/ exchange may aggravate the shaping above what it's supposed be.

Once I've run through some tests and you're still not satisfied with your experiences let's discuss some alternatives via PM :)
