Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

R300, if you're on 4mb... which is just a bit more than I'm willing to spend on Band-Aids.

Hmmm...HapticSimian I was paying R 697.00 which included the telkom line. The 4meg uncapped business is R 897.00, I'm even considering their 6meg package really soon as my line syncs @ 6megs :)

At the risk of being flamed, guys may I suggest coughing up a hundred or two for peace of mind and a rock solid connection and go business uncapped.

I'm using adsl at home and I should pay for a business account? My average monthly usage is 50GB, don't think I deserved to be shaped at this point.

Don't they have that 100GB for the price of 50GB capped now? May be a better option for you.

I was on a 'home' account as well, it's fine if you don't mind the shaping which is not in effect 'all the time'. The business account just takes away the shaping. I upgraded cos I hated that I was shaped when I got home after work, there was no shaping after hours (well much later) and over weekends.

Not at all, and you make a valid point. My average downloads hover around the 100GB per month. It hardly ever goes over that. Up until two months ago I haven't had a single issue like this. I've been with AH since day one of having ADSL, and I never considered leaving them, until now.

I can understand why they may need to shape usage, I get it. I want to understand under which parameters are shaping being applied. Is it for downloads (http) / torrents across the board from day one of the month, which seem to be the case. Is it based on usage?

And please, I'm not trying to pick a fight. At the end of the day they can shape whoever they want whenever they want. That's their prerogative. But I also have a right to get the service I pay for, and at this point, I don't feel I am getting value for money, contrary to whatever Afrihost is advertising.

Yeah the 50GB capped bundle is the same price as the uncapped bundle it will prove a problem on the months that I choose to download some newly released media.

Thanks mate

Youtube seems.. the same mostly, but I'll test more later.

Well, Youtube 1080p doesn't work.

If you right click on a vid and choose Info for nerds etc - I get 1000-3000kbit/s but it fluctuates quite badly and sometimes drops to 0 then picksup again. ie: HD is pointless.

Well, 50/25 from the 18.8/6.5 of earlier, so that's a definite improvement from last night when the first change in shaping came at 22:30.

Let's hope the trend continues.

It didn't. The trend most assuredly didn't continue. Back to 18.8/6.25

Goddamn ****ing useless.
