Currently I can't access the internet at all with Afrihost both adsl & mobile, backup account fnb works fine

Please send me a PM :( I'd like to check things out here, you should be able to connect without any hassles.

Hello Legend, sorry to see you so busy here, I'm thoroughly enjoying business :D. Thanks again for sorting me out :)

No worries, glad things are working out nicely on your end.
I'm here to help, besides - this gets my post count up ;)

I think both AfriMan and myself have covered this quite a bit - it's not your usage patterns, it's the overall network in it's entirety.

Just throwing this in here: I wonder if the iOS 7 update threw off with the network monitoring or something?

Or maybe the network just had a BSOD. Give it a bit of a reboot :p ;)

I think our guys have checked this - so not really sure if it's a coincidence or not.
Haha, we've rebooted the modems and plugged everything back in... ain't happenin' :(

I'm sure things will even out really soon though.

If everyone schedules the bulk of their downloads for after hours we should start seeing a general improvement during the day. I'm not promising anything here, but it should certainly help :)

I'm sorry but at present this is BS. I've been doing that every night for the last week (since always actually). Currently makes zero difference. My shaping hasn't changed 1% over the last couple of days. 24/7. 18%/6%.

I keep on hearing about positive results, but so far nothing. Up till now, I've been fairly calm and relaxed about the entire issue.

It's not my exchange. It's not my line. Things are slow. I just activated my remaining turbocharge, then what?

The fact that you've used less data this month has absolutely no affect on what's currently happening.

The network is seeing higher load, hence the shaping is kicking in more frequently and regrettably, heavier.

So you are saying that my usage makes no difference as to whether I get shaped or not.
But
Just as we shape from the heaviest users down, we also unshaped from the lightest users upwards. I don't know if many users on MyBB forums would be fall into that category but we are shaping less users and to a lesser extent that we have of late.

Can you guys please sing from the same hymn sheet.

Could you perhaps try and schedule your download for later on tonight to see if it speeds things up?
I certainly shall but based on the time taken to download stuff overnight I don't seem to be unshaped even overnight. I will then of course have to download the stuff I was planning to do overnight tonight during the day tomorrow so nobody wins and I can't even turbocharge tomorrow because I wasted my last one tonight (and don't even think of suggesting I pay AH yet MORE money to buy another turbocharge).

Exactly! And this is what has been happening. I simply cannot wait 2 weeks for a couple of GB to download, so I'm forced to run the download the entire day. Hence my post earlier about shaping and knock-on effect.

The shaping won't look at your usage directly and shape from there thought.
What I'm saying, is that if everyone starts scheduling bigger downloads for after hours the load might lift - causing the shaping to ease.

Again, I need to urge that the only time your usage is taken into account is when heavier shaping is applied. Then it shapes the heaviest users first and goes down from there. In this case, because of the increased load we're seeing a more blanket approach to shaping. This does seem to have improved slightly today though, so hopefully the trend continues.

I think you're getting confused with our messages. No, shaping does not directly look at your usage patterns. So if you use 1TB we aren't going to shape you, it's not triggered by xGB on your account - but rather on the overall network.

This doesn't sound right at all, I'm really sorry about this :( Streaming should be unaffected even if you are quite heavily shaped.
Are you perhaps seeing a slight latency increase on your end? This generally ruins streaming :(

latency seemed okay. well under 60ms to afrihost.com didn't try youtube.com though :/

Been like this for a while actually... but it comes and goes. not sure if im just browsing at the wrong times. Oh well :) thanks Afriguy

This isn't going to happen, because people cannot wait 2 weeks for a couple of GBs to download. What you're effective saying is that we're screwed with regards to uncapped accounts.

Mine is at the heaviest shaping possible, and I'm definitely not a heavy downloader. I don't even mind you going back to the last 30 days, look at my usage and when I've scheduled my downloads, and then say I fall into the heavy user category. Which brings me again to the point: how can you say (quantify) that things are improving if someone like me has seen no change in shaping for days?

Which leads to to another point. So user's usage ARE now in fact taken into account when shaping takes place. This is not what we were told until recently?

This is bs and I've had enough! I've been with Afrihost for close on four years, loved their service and stuck it out through previous outages but my connection is unusable and no-one at their excuse for a service desk seems to be able to give me any reassurance that (a) there's actually any problem and (b) that they're actually doing anything to sort it out. There was a post a few pages back where someone hypothesised that Afrihost is simply hanging high-usage clients out to dry: I think that they're spot-on! I have 2Mb line and probably average 50GB a month but - again - the service desk are unable to tell me if that qualifies me as a heavy user.

AfriMan/Guy: whilst your presence on this forum is appreciated, the "updates" you're providing are nothing more than hollow platitudes and overly-optimistic speculation. You've both posted here dozens of times over the past few days and I still have no clue as to what the actual issue is, how you're dealing with it, whether or not your technical teams have any idea as to the cause, when the shaping/throttling is going to be relaxed, what your Management team is doing about, etc. Also, I find your constant plugs for your business products distasteful which is why I'm going elsewhere tomorrow morning and not selecting one of your bus. products.

A suggestion on behalf of those unfortunates who are going to stay with you: perhaps you could get one of your techies to post some solid info pertaining to the issue. There are a lot of people on these boards who might be able to help because - if what you're both saying about all this is actually true - it's nearly a week on and your techies could clearly use some assistance...
