ok, so every week we have now a new excuse,
thanks afrihost for trying to be transparent as possible. things are just frustrating after a hard days work...
if the network is being heavily shaped, why is my gaming and other realtime stuff still not what it was 3 months ago?

All I here is issue after issue, with no resolution in sight since the 19th of September?? The only reply we are getting is it should normalise soon!!!! Being shaped since the 19th of September is not soon!! And now we have terrible latency issues added on top of the shaping!! WTF is going on there!!??

We aren't making excuses every week, nor are these new issues every week. I know it's really frustrating having slow speeds - trust me, I'd be just as frustrated!

The latency spikes have been taken care of, it's getting better.
Again - because there is an open fault under your line you'll see a worse experience.

"Its only a temp glitch Type RSA, Im sure next year this time you will be sorted" Just keep paying for the fantastic "Youtube" account :(

Again, realtime services are not just YouTube. It's browsing, VoIP, streaming etc etc. As soon as the network quietens down we open up the network to as many clients as possible.

What I can say that the bulk of the increase in demand is from torrents on Uncapped accounts. So again, a desperate plea for everyone to schedule as much P2P overnight as possible. There is tons of unused bandwidth overnight that we're more than happy for everyone to make use of, and will help us make the case for upgrades a lot stronger.

Why not shape P2P, the torrents then to 0.5% during the day and no shaping P2P during the night?

Please remove the "recommended for downloading" part on the website then. Do you honestly recommend this for gaming/ downloading?

Still having some issues at home, struggled to stream a relatively small HD video this morning on my 10mbps line... speedtest ranged from 5 to 6 mbps... not what I like seeing :(

no, i can live with the speeds, my downloads finish during the early hours...
but i don't see the value in paying for the service if I can't play games on-line without constant lag spikes and ruberbanding in the evenings, having youtube videos fail to buffer etc

This is the same problems I am having on my 10mbps line!!! I could not even play battlefield 3 the other night, lank rubberbanding and lag spikes... this morning I tried to stream a 20 min HD movie... buffers for like 2 min, plays 10 seconds, buffers 2 min, plays 10 sec... this while I pay a premium for the 10mbps line and account... ai... I blame Telkom mostly for shi**y lines and what not but something has to give somewhere...

These accounts are recommended for exactly this. Our network is under load at the moment, so additional shaping will be there. During normal usage times these accounts are fine - especially after hours.

The latency should mostly be resolved, this issue barred - gaming and other realtime services are getting priority on our network. If you aren't seeing this, please PM me your info so we can have your account looked into.

We saw a latency spike this morning, which would mostly affect shaping as it's heavily relying on latency to be low :(

Afridude, I see my line is finally with you guys, I am going to run all those test things when I get home but I hope my line will be good to go for some gaming action this weekend... We plan on running two consoles online.

Keep me posted please. If you run into any issues you're more than welcome to drop me a PM and I'll help out where ever I can :)

Any idea when the afrihost network will be back to normal running capacity?

24/7 shaping for 11 days at 18.8% and 6.25 p2p is pathetic.
Ive been happy with Afrihost for the past 4 months and have had no issues but being shaped 24/7 for the past 11 days is becoming a bit much now.

I do not want to leave but you guys are going to force my hand soon if nothing changes.
I want to know what is being done and what time frame it is expected to be sorted out?

The vague answer of hope for it being better tonight makes me think that you guys have no idea what is causing the high demand on the network 24/7 which means that a solution will not be happening any time soon...

The latency seems to have returned to normal on our network, however we are shaping quite heavily in the JHB area.
