Which part? Shaping/Blocking or proof of business?
Around looking at shaping Business accounts. Saying this though, I don't want anyone to freak out - we will never just put a blanket shaping policy on our Business accounts.
Or business accounts should be shaped after business hours opening up capacity for home users. Leaving real time services untouched that is.
We'll need to look at a few options
I can't promise anything now, all I know is that is has brought up.With all due respect what is there not to freak out about. Uncapped service goes straight to hell. Well oops guess we'll have to upgrade to business then. Now even thinking about shaping these accounts brings us back to square one. Honestly even talk of this is enough to drive me away finally. I am seriously starting to think that throttling with fixed limits is the only way to run an uncapped service. Even if this is based on protocol.
What's more alarming is that in 6 weeks we're no closer to finding out what happened.
We aren't though. As I said, we'll look at potential options that suite absolutely everybody. Please don't see my post as "we're gonna shape Business accounts too" we won't.

Oh cry me a river. What constitutes abuse pray tell. The over 50Gb odd I used this month on steam downloads? The 20Gb on online gaming? I'm on a business account because of Afrihosts advise that this is the only way to get service. And I'm no leaderboard candidate, only used about 170Gb. Everybody thinks their traffic is the most important that's just the way it goes. Like I've said numerous times before, let's define whats acceptable. That used to be minimal shaping needed during daytime. Now it's 24/7. Which is unworkable, and like I said below. If throttling by protocol is the solution, so be it. Just define limits and everybody will be happy.
Afriman... I have an idea that, if possible, would be absolutely fantastic to implement before 05/11. Why dont you guys setup a server at your Main HQ/Each IPC where users can download COD:Ghosts/BF4 (legal iso of course) from?
It would make downloads faster and, if implemented at the IPC's, would reduce load on the network...

EDIT: And i'm not just meaning caching, I mean a dedicated download server for that specific game. Also, If the stuff downloaded could be excluded from our monthy totals, thatll be even better!

FPWM. Just quoted you to point out the level of frustration. All I wish for is a 200Gb capped service running at 4Mb/s at the same price as the 2Mb/s business uncapped bundle, which I am perfectly happy with P2P and only P2P being shaped. Give me that and I'll be there like a shot. And I'm sure quite a few others too. Enough leeway and more predictable.
I too am on a business account and always have been.
COD:Ghosts will be released via Steam. The steam download can then be backed up... however, I am not sure of the legal implications here, however, I doubt there will be any, as you still need a valid product key to install (And even if people were going to torrent it, not having a local server wouldn't stop them doing so)
I'll dump it here for general visibillity. Origin has it's own CDN. ams.akamai.cdn.ea.com. However here's a thought jacking Zertopss idea. Why not look at getting some of the bigger CDN's in your datacenter? And there is propably peering through JINX with a lot of them as well(If you guys peer there not sure).

Well that's just great thinking right there... NOT!
I switched from an Uncapped 10Mbps account to a Business Uncapped 10Mbps account over the weekend just to escape this utterly frustrating past 6 weeks, and guess what... I'm STILL being shaped in terms of my internet experience, even though ClientZone indicates "No shaping applied" and repeated insistence from Afrihost reps that Business is guaranteed unshaped.
I've tried all connection types from streaming realtime YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus (supposedly never shaped, regardless of the account type), http direct downloads, P2P on popular torrents, NNTP on sources a week old... All this to test if the new Business Uncapped is working, and the result: I'm peaking once in a while at best to 60% of my theoretical line speed, and the average is well below at around 30 - 45%.
I would welcome it being a fault on my line (which Afrihost maintains), which I could then blame for all this, but my stats and trace routes look favourable.
I've PMed the Afri-peeps, but I'm sure they must be swamped with complaints... No response on mine yet. I'd just really like some honest feedback about what the real issue here is (now even on Business Uncapped) and when this is going to be sorted out.
You shouldn't be seeing any shaping on the Business account, please PM me and I'll have a look at what's going on here for you.
