These aren't great results at all :(
Have you seen these results for most of the day?

What worries me, is why are we seeing these kind of results when there isn't even shaping active on the account? Demand that high vs capacity already? :(

We'll need to investigate this, but agreed - we shouldn't be seeing these results at all :(

They say their is no education in the second kick of a mule. How true.

The fool is me to think that upgrading to a Business uncapped account will make things better.

- Speedtest will at best show 2mbs on 10mbs account.
- netflix buffers at the lowest quality setting
- FTPs will barely get to 2-3mbs

Again I tried a friends account from a different ISP .. 6-7mbs FTP and 8.2mbs on speedtest ... Netflix running smoothly.

The AH network is totally saturated and you don't need to be shaped to experience totally cr@p throughput.

This here is my current experience exactly. I've not had a different test account to try out yet though. What area are you in? I'm in Zwartkop, Centurion.

You cannot shape capped accounts, ever; you'll have rioting in the streets. But declaring that 'business' accounts will never be shaped, at all, ever, even over weekends or at 2am, was a cock-up waiting to happen. That has, I'm sure, contributed greatly to this utterly farcical situation you find yourselves in.

But seriously dude, you as a company need to get the **** with it. Nearly 6 weeks in and you're still 'believing' things, and seeking to placate people with utterly meaningless tripe. Either start communicating what you're doing to sort out this mess, or grow a collective pair and admit that home uncapped accounts are to remain utterly useless so we can start moving on.

The good faith many of us still exhibit towards your company will not last much longer.

Wow!! Have I made a mistake in signing up this week for a uncapped account

Well no because I was at work the whole day but remember how a while ago I was complaining about erratic speeds? well now its just a constant crap speed... joy.

What to do?

I am tired of having to look for solutions to this.

I'm really sorry that we've let you down :(
Please drop me a PM with a bit more info and we'll see what we can dig up here for you.

Frankly, yes. This past 6 weeks has been the worst period of ADSL connectivity I've experienced since going fixed line in, oh I dunno, 2008'ish. The home uncapped offering from Afrihost is, at present, beyond laughably pathetic... especially if you happen to be on the Northern IPC.

I still hope they'll come 'round, but that hope is waning.

I'm sure we can have this fixed up soon, and I know that I've been saying this a lot - but I have a lot of faith in our team.

25% shaping after using 20GB for the whole month on a 1meg line. Quite disappointing, and hopefully it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the BF4 launch with having to download day 1 patches...

Which ISP is that if I may ask?

Well that's just great thinking right there... NOT!

I switched from an Uncapped 10Mbps account to a Business Uncapped 10Mbps account over the weekend just to escape this utterly frustrating past 6 weeks, and guess what... I'm STILL being shaped in terms of my internet experience, even though ClientZone indicates "No shaping applied" and repeated insistence from Afrihost reps that Business is guaranteed unshaped.

I've tried all connection types from streaming realtime YouTube, Netflix, Hulu Plus (supposedly never shaped, regardless of the account type), http direct downloads, P2P on popular torrents, NNTP on sources a week old... All this to test if the new Business Uncapped is working, and the result: I'm peaking once in a while at best to 60% of my theoretical line speed, and the average is well below at around 30 - 45%.

I would welcome it being a fault on my line (which Afrihost maintains), which I could then blame for all this, but my stats and trace routes look favourable.

I've PMed the Afri-peeps, but I'm sure they must be swamped with complaints... No response on mine yet. I'd just really like some honest feedback about what the real issue here is (now even on Business Uncapped) and when this is going to be sorted out.

Well we were going to upgrade to a business account but I'm glad I read this. Not sure where to proceed to from here though.

If by "we" you mean your company, then it depends on your needs. MWeb Business, or Vox DataPro are both very good business ADSL providers, but I personally prefer Vox.

Honestly, I don't know what's going on... The Business Uncapped account is going ok now that it's after hours, but this is quite similar to how the Uncapped ones started out 6 weeks ago, poor in the day and decent overnight (until that also degraded to all night shaping and weekends too). But Business is not meant to be this way, as we've been repeatedly told. It seems the network degradation is just spreading though.

So at this point, I can't personally recommend it as an alternative based on my own experience thus far (3 days), but I'll see how it goes, and hopefully a real solution from Afrihost surfaces very soon.
