Hey Guys

Got some great news. We have managed to get some extra capacity nationally before the Telkom network freeze over December. This is a provisional upgrade until the full additional capacity we requested becomes available. The upgrades are now live in the North, South and the East.

Please remember that this is provisional capacity. Unfortunately we were not able to get as much as we would have liked, but we're already seeing a huge improvement in the East and the South. The North is still seeing more shaping than we'd like but we expect that contention will be minimised and we also expect that we'll see more unshaping or lesser shaping happening much quicker and shaping being applied a little slower.

Again, this is provisional capacity to ease the load on the network and to improve our clients overall experience until we can get our full order from Telkom. We still encourage all our clients to schedule torrents for after hours or overnight. Clients in the North will still experience shaping, but we expect that your overall experience is going to improve.

We'll be monitoring and tweaking over the coming weeks to try to find the best "sweet spots" to ensure that we shape as little as possible but also keep contention and throughput at optimal levels. We also expect traffic to die down as businesses starting winding down for the holidays - which will be a great relief on the demand on the network.

Thanks for your patience, and let's hope that Telkom gets our full order in as soon as possible :)

Brilliant, thank you very much.

Cool, would you recommend me trying out the 10mb home account again. Will move from the 4mb business package.

Sounds good, now if only the Bergvliet exchange was not congesting me to death!!!

Awesome news!!! will definetely test the home 4Mb. AfriPeeps, I see Mweb and IS have local steam servers.......nudge nudge wink wink...... :):D

I'm in the south, and I'm still getting shaped to the ground. I don't know when last Clientzone said no shaping applied. What kind of improvements are you talking about?

Let's give it a while, allocating the additional capacity through across the board could take a while to see it's real benefits :)
How much data have you used this month so far?

If you're on a 6.5% shaping policy - then you would get a maximum of 6%. However, if you are running other shaped services or even realtime services using a large portion of your bandwidth - you may not get the full 6.5% consistently.

Do you get a better experience when you Turbocharge?

I am only using usenet downloads for now and nothing else. I also had to reduce the connections to only 1, else nothing gets moving at all! If I even try to run P2P or torrents at the same time, the overhead is so much, nothing gets downloaded. 6% (effectively 3%) does not split well at all!

I have tried turbocharge and it does run at full the, but I shouldn't have to. So far this month, I've only downloaded 20GB!

I'm in the South and still shaped 50% downloads so the increased capacity has done nothing for me - as a matter of interest, has anyone seen an improvement following this increased capacity?
Done 35 Gb this month on a 1Mbs uncapped account.

So do we get shaped according to usage? I remember a while ago someone said regardless of data consumed everybody gets shaped. Well the axxess tech told me today when i enquired about their packages, that users get shaped according to usage, cant see why Afrihost wont work differently.

Let's give it a bit of time, added capacity won't see benefits straight off the bat. It should start to ease soon.

We shape based on overall usage of our network, based on region. This is regardless of your usage :)

Afridude, my line keeps dropping after it was down earlier tonight.
