Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Well I had a telkom tech check out my line....no faults, even did the courtesy of checking my router and pc settings. He connected my line to his pc and ta-da he was online. He then tested the telkom guest settings and ta-da he was online.

So AH, Telkom clearly ain't the problem as to why I cannot authenticate!?

Even with a turboboost my newsserver downloads are not going. Trying the afrihost and a paid international server. Browsing is fine, but this is really frustrating.

Hey Guys

Some great news. We've received our upgrade in the North and we're already seeing better performance overall. Our technical team will be monitoring and calibrating the network over the next while, but we expect most people will be getting much better performance on realtime services, though shaping will remain as is for the time being.

Please let us know if anyone from the North is still having a poor experience (especially seeing any latency or very poor throughput), but bear in mind that it will take us a little time to get the network working optimally with the new IPC in place.

Thanks to everyone for their patience while this was being sorted out.

Feels like absolutely nothing has changed at all.
Torrents have never run worse (Since about Monday).

How much additional capacity did Afrihost get? 1mb?

I agree. The additional capacity has done zilch to my account. In fact, its made my account worse than usual. I can't get full line speed (even turbocharged) this morning, unless I switch my account to another ISP.

But I'm not surprised. I doubt normal uncapped users will ever see any change. The additional IPC is clearly marked for capped and business uncapped users. Not for us home uncapped scum!

And undoubtedly they will reply with torrent speed are not guaranteed... bla bla bla.
If torrents ran at 400kb/s last week, and now all of a sudden, no matter which torrents I try, can barely get 3kb/s, then its your network that can't handle things.

Well - AH finally sorted out my authentication problems so i am back online, so thank you for that.

HOWEVER - trying to catch up on all my torrents that were just "hanging" until the ADSL came back on - ran only 1 torrent, from 11pm last night to 7am this morning; a whopping 6mb of data was downloaded - and the torrent health and seeds was all good.

Giving them another month.

Afriman, can you check if there is anything wrong on my account. Had very little download yesterday.

Afriman is not in the office today, he is busy moving. Could you perhaps send me a PM with your account details to that I can have a look for you.

From where you connecting Pogoct? The Eastern and Northern IPC upgrades are in place, the Southern upgrades are still being completed for the moment, so your speeds may not quite yet be up to scratch. Can you send me a PM with your ADSL details so that I can check on your account for you.

Three nights in a row now and I've downloaded about 50meg on P2P.
Webafrica/ITNT - up to 200kB/s (at least 180kB/s).
I'll also give AH to 24th November but i'm a bit ticked off that I now need to pay extra for a ITNT account.
This sucks.

I've stayed loyal for many months now, but this was the reason I left Telkom in the first place - no throughput and no answers.

Sorry about the slow speeds :(
We are seeing good improvements though, the North and East have already received their upgrades.

Oh dear god. Are you ACTUALLY friggin kidding me. 144P on YouTube (something that isn't meant to be shaped) with a 4Mb line. I.Cannot.Deal.Right.Now. I am actually letting it buffer now while i go drink a bottle of whiskey. /rant over

Sorry to hear :(
Do you have any test results that I can look at? Sounds your latency is a bit up and down.

Not sure why its timing out at hop 1 when going to my router. But its never been an issue. Always had full line speed. I have a 4Mb uncapped line, but its currently going at 1.55Mb.

The latency is a little high and inconsistent on the exchange, are the results on the Telkom guest account the same?

Up at 5am, starting work early today. So I try log in to my gmail quickly before leaving. Took me 2 mins to open my inbox. Fine on MWeb account, capped account was slower than MWeb but still faster than the uncapped acc. But I mean, this is gmail we're talking about here. Browsing.
At 5am.

This is still on the Afrihost account. I will try the telkom guest account. 100% sure that it will work perfectly.

Has anybody else noticed routing problems separate from the bandwidth situation?

I have twice now run into problems connecting into remote servers, international and local. In the first case, a local server, the Citrix connection (port 443) works on uncapped but not capped. In the second case, I can't connect via RDP (3389) or PPTP to a server in the US right now even though I could at 4am. In both cases I have zero problems connecting over e.g. Vodacom 3G. Maybe there's more to this problem than just capacity, a story which simply cannot be true so many months and so many 2-1 bandwidth promotions down the line? Bob the Network Guy left and nobody knows how to keep the ship afloat?
