Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

That difference in Ping is actually something we're investigating from our side.

For all intents and purposes the latency and ping should be almost identical, but as you pointed out, there is consistently a 20ms to 30ms difference.

Sometimes ping on the Afrihost accounts are 180-185 which is the best ping I've ever had before. Like I said, it's all about consistency.

Regardless of ping I can't play anything on that uncapped account, I don't know what's up but it's just useless.

If you guys offered 100gb anytime and 100gb midnight Capped for R200 (Web Africa offer 60gb anytime and 240gb midnight) I'd stay with Afrihost regardless of ping. but the 150gb a month is just a tiny bit too low for R300 compared to what Web Africa has to offer.

We are actually looking into something similar, we just need to find an Afrihost-way of implementing it. :)

First time using the net in 3 weeks and its the same as usual ...... shaped throughout the night, still shaped.

Weekend = enable shaping and don't give a toss until back to work huh

I'm glad people have finally started to complain about poor Google service performance. Why does all Google stuff run slow except Youtube? (for once) Gmail takes long, Google searches are sometimes slow and now the Play Store loads up at 200kbps.

You guy's really need to do something about how you handle the Google cache server. With these IPC price cuts coming along, for the love of tosh, do not lower prices just up your QoS. You really need it.

So again on Afrihost with no shaping allied I get between 10 and 15% packet loss on teamspeak.
Switch to capped WA account and the packet loss is gone.

Switch back to Afrihost after 6 minutes and the packet loss is back...

So AfriGenie, im not sure if you read this article http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/125024-adsl-price-cuts-expected.html

Question, what is Afrihost going to do with this reduction? Are you planning to reduce the ADSL prices and if so please include the 10mb uncapped accounts or to better your infrastructure? It has been a very long time since we saw a price reduction on the ADSL uncapped packages

It seems there is a problem with Afrihost, I also logged the same type scenario via the clientzone and helpdesk, get a ticket for it and nothings happening... When Im log into Axxess, WA, CW then there is no problem but the minute I login to Afrihost uncapped all hell breaks lose. I have contacted the helpdesk several time requesting an update and everytime they just send me back to do more tests... as if there cant be something wrong with the AFRIHOST network because its the home of PURE INTERNET JOY!!!

If it's not out there for the public to see they don't care about your complaints, from my experience anyways.

7am on a Sunday and still throttled to 50% of what I am paying for. Nice.

Yep, went unshaped yesterday between 11am and 2pm and shaped since then ...... absolutely pathetic. It's cool though, CrystalWeb is soon come :)

Is YouTube being shaped?

I'm currently loading some videos in the background and my speed is capping at 30kbps.

If I run a speed test it instantly jumps to 450kbs. Pause speed test and back to 30kbps.

I can't even watch a newly loaded video for 10 seconds after the page has 'loaded'.

Definitely seems very fishy for a 4Mb line...

Their uncapped lines are not even worth R50... Their capped data is really good but hell of an expensive. Youtube doesn't work well for me either, almost everything Google related.

I find it ironic that on Freedom Day of all days, I'm shaped to hell and back and have been since 4am when I woke up.

Got me good AH, you got me good .......

I've also been shaped at 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P all day. It makes no sense at all, since its a public holiday, and usage from businesses should be next to nothing. I used 2 turbocharges to get some work files, and speeds were terrible. I couldn't load up YouTube videos unless I set it to 144p. I used my friend's WebAfrica capped account, and everything was working perfectly.

It is really sad that Afrihost think that its okay to throttle us on weekends and public holidays now. Just how bad is their infrastructure & IPC? It can't be at full capacity? They spent millions on it, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I know at least 20 people that have left Afrihost in the last few months, so it can't be more clients.

Since MTN has taken them over, they seem quite content on being mediocre :(

Reason is that all those business accounts are being used by consumers... Whom are all at home raping their line.
