Ive been on 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P shaping every day this month, woo hoo go Afrihost!

:(
I know it isn't ideal, we're getting more capacity soon!

Saying this though, it shouldn't be 24/7 - does your shaping ease later at night?

I am considering moving to Afrihost.

I was on an MWEB premium account previously, but it worked out too expensive. Then I downgraded to a standard account, but got throttled way to soon. Then I moved to Telkom...Having issues with my DNS services - I stream Netflix and Hulu. Using a DNS server makes certain sites not load and I also cannot see any subtitles on Netflix. Changing from Telkom to an Afrihost capped account, fixes all of these issues.

Anyone here stream Netflix or Hulu with Afrihost? How do you experience the service? Which DNS service are you using? I've tried unblock-us and UnoDNS.

Netflix is a real-time service, and is therefore never shaped. However, some users have reported issues with netflix streaming on standard uncapped :/

Why don't you try an account for a month, no need to bundle up right away - so you can check if it works. If you are down in the Cape, your downloads will be shaped as there is quite a lot of network usage at the moment (Past 3 weeks or so), however new capacity is on its way :D If you are up in JHB, you shouldnt experience any shaping :)

Well - this makes sense? Connecting through my personal VPN in the US (10Meg Line)

Does this download any content?
If the account was shaped your realtime services would still be fine :) You can check your shaping stats in the ClientZone.

My browsing is screwed. Struggling to get any international sites to load. Last night web browsing was fine but downloading was dead. Couldn't even do a windows update. Really disappointed.

It isn't 24/7, it's 20/7. The shaping eases up at about 02:00 / 02:30 in the morning, until 6:00 AM, so unless I sleep during the day its useless. Yes I could schedule downloads but thats not even where the problem lies, I can't download any updates when I need to, I can't use streaming services like NTV.mx (still, despite numerous complaints), because your network picks it up as a P2P service. I basically get no joy out of my connection at the moment. And this has been since January 1st this year, but this month it has been the worst so far, probably because you are accepting new registrations but not increasing capacity, you need to get this sorted out, surely you have some sort of SLA with Telkom?

No shaping today(yet).
That is a first in 13 days.

Struggling to download a 13GB game from PSN though.
Started yesterday early evening and it sill shows 4 hours left on a 4Mbps.

Edit:
Worried about the load shedding possibility as well.

That's because the rest of us have all been load shedded. Power has been off since 9am.

Really sorry about that :( There shouldn't be any reason why browsing or any realtime services are slow.
Did you manage to run and troubleshooting last night or grab a traceroute?

Can I assume you're in the South region?
If so - we know the shaping isn't ideal, more capacity will be on the way soon!

Indeed it is.
I can see the drop off in traffic requests due to the power issues.

Just want to confirm this, while we're talking about power issues - our network is up and running, not affected by any load shedding :) So if you have power, your DSL will work.

I also have no shaping applied today :D Eskom have made my day better for once!

Yup South region, been waiting for that capacity for months dude, just getting impatient now, I'm paying the same cost per month but my service is becoming worse and worse, not really fair

Fully understand, but remember that realtime services aren't affected :)
More capacity should be on the way though. The South region network is looking quite good today, I can only assume it's helped along by the power cuts though :p
