I have been on an Afrihost 10meg uncapped bundle for the last 4months now.

I must say Afrihost customer support is always great and helpful and prompt.

But in the last month my P2P speeds have been shocking and embarrassing.

They only show any hope of downloading over 200k between 02:00 and 06:00

I totally understand their shaping policy and from December - February i would get around 400k during the day and then full 800+ after 19:00. (which is completely reasonable IMO) But the last month has been terrible sitting all through the day and evening at 10-20k downloads.

Please note I am only downloading +- 200GB per month which I do not think it abusive on a 10meg line?

I have emailed support and just got the copy past email back - which really means nothing.

I really do wish Afrihost would take all these complaints seriously and give us some answers.

Besides all of this I am extremely happy with Afrihost and do not want to go through the effort of changing to another ISP, But it is getting to that point where I may just have to as its starting to feel like I am not getting my bang for my buck.

Other 10meg uncapped bundle deals - Cape Town.

Who else would you guys suggest?

I see Cybertsmarts offering is R100 cheaper!
WebAfrica?
Axxess?

really pains me to even think about leaving Afrihost as I have been such a supporter, but I suppose this is the point of this whole no contract competitive market.

I see you're new.

AH is currently running at capacity. They are getting more capacity on the 10th which will lessen the shaping.

Thanks for letting me know.

I wish Afrihost had just told me that on support email, then I wouldnt have had to write that entire post.

It does appear that they don't really want people to know this. It does appear that they would rather their clients believe they have a line fault or a congested exchange.

Afrihost / MTN Business ADSL does not live up to it's promises - they shape the hell out of it and then respond to complaints with polite excuses. I recently started using a VPN tunnel because of this and it improved my p2p download speeds by more than 300%.

Have you disabled protocol prioritization from the control panel?

It's default is on. You should switch it off if you want to torrent.

Yes, I did try that - prioritization improved the download speeds, but only to about 1/3 of my VPN throughput.
