Afrihost usage stats broken

Yeah I run a linux box which meters bandwidth usage as well as metering software on each machine on our network, which almost always adds up. Afrihost on the other hand NEVER adds up and, now that I think about it, 10% off is a pretty good estimate... I wish they'd do something about this! :(

so you mean I might actually have 2 Gigs left on my 20 Gig package?

Maybe this is how they fund their cheap prices? :p

i've also questioned usage before...

[14-11-2009 07:01 AM]

I lodged a complaint beginning of the month, after some 300 odd mb was gone. I havent used my account over the 2gb limit, as I logged off before it was supposed to be capped - I got an email giving me my usage, and I logged off. So I decided to look again at my usage, and to my dispair the following:

Status: Active
AutoTop up: No
Available: 1.343 GB

Now I havent TOUCHED THIS ACCOUNT THIS MONTH!

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN BECAUSE IM GETTING ANNOYED NOW FOR PAYING FOR 2GB AND AT THE END IM ONLY GETTING 1GB.

CAN AN AFRIHOST AGENT PLEASE GET BACK TO ME AND GIVE ME MY BANDWITH BACK. I HAVE LOGS OF MY TELKOM ACCOUND AND USAGE, SO THERE IS NO WAY I USED MY AFRIHOST ACCOUNT. AND YES IM TYPING IN CAPS COS IM HIGHLY IRATE NOW!!!

THANKS.

i've looked at the usage tools and got 3 differant readings a while back. the measuring of usage definitly seems of. have you tried mr Gain or support yet ?

Never knew you could use the saix userstats for IS data usage :o
o well that is odd..

hmmm even data log is differant as to the graphical one

user stats via graph: 22 028.1900 megabytes
user stats via log : 21 581.8240 megabytes (21.076 GB to megabytes)

seems that clearly the graphical one is not in sync

why don't you email/call afrihost rather than post here expecting them to respond? you can always post the reply here.

Did you actually read the post? The one where I called them three times? :p
Sure I will call again and post again when I call but I will decide when that is - I am giving them some time to respond here now, the are active in these forums. If no response, then this thread will continue to sit at the top while I bump it with comments and responses I get over the phone. I'm sure Afrihost can see that it is in their interest to put this to sleep. This thread will die if they merely respond to it with a little thanks for pointing the issue out or a little concern and indication that it will be fixed.

If you look at the latest image I posted above, it indicates that I will be billed an extra 8Gb next month which is WRONG. I am just waiting for their billing system to send me an email.

*EDIT* I have had a response from Afrihost in the other thread:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...R9.50-per-GB&p=3655401&viewfull=1#post3655401

I'll keep you posted.

Hi guys
I will get the dev guys to take a closer look at this - we have not experienced general complaints though. The data logs we get are sent straight from SAIX radius server passed via IS - we then report on those figures directly.
I will check out the differences between the graphical and text figures though.
Cheers
Pete

Thanks Pete - note that the stats on the GRAPH (which is what we mostly go by) do not match the excel stats download. IMO, according to my router, the excel file is accurate and reflected my usage correctly. The graph is the problem and IMO reflects a software issue - perhaps confusing bytes with bits? Perhaps just a bit of php / c# / xml that needs attention?
Let us know how it goes!

Afrihost bos-up

Ok, so as I suspected in one of my posts above, they have now decided in the new month that I have used 8Gb before the month even starts - that's because of the bos-up from last month. So now my internet is down.

Afrihost, I really don't have time for this. Seriously. Pete, any feedback? Why the silence?

Right now I have topped up with Gconnect to be able to continue working because nobody has called me as promised within an hour of logging a tech support incident. More than two hours have passed:

Subject: ADSL CAP reached
Department: Afrihost.com - One Hour Reply

This is my latest Afrihost usage stats page:

Log of events

Just so that there is an easily accessible log of events for Afrihost, here are the problems I experienced:

1) Friday 26th: Was capped while usage stats said 'Active'
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/medium/active.JPG

2) Topped up another 2Gb and was back online: Total 29Gb purchased, of which ? used (see next img)
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/medium/active2.JPG

3) Usage stats at time of the above image according to raw data from Afrihost: 28.3Gb used so 1 left
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/usage3.JPG

4) Capped again! This time raw usage stats showed 29gb used (consistent with amount purchased)

5) Topped up another gig and suddenly usage stats says 'Capped' and 8Gb over, but I was still surfing without problems. I didn't use much after this:
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/medium/usage_stats.JPG

6) March 1st and I'm capped - apparently the 8Gb 'over usage' in the incorrect stats above was used to determine this. I am now on Gconnect.
http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/data/500/medium/over_use.JPG

7) Another look at the raw stats shows a new inconsistency: Compare 27 Feb stats with 1 Mar stats - note the duplication of 25 Mar and 26 Mar on the latest stats (circled in red).

I got through to support on the phone and am now waiting for the ADSL manager to contact me. The silence is deafening. I have had NO feedback despite reporting this/these issue/s three times since Friday.

You just have the worst luck ever man. Checked my usage and compared it to my Bitmeter logs. Everything is okay om my side. Hope you get sorted man.

Ok, so the SAIX logs it seems are consistent with my own router logs - total usage of 31Gb. This is also consistent with my purchase for the month of Feb - I purchased around 32Gb. The duplication on the Afrihost raw log (25/26 Feb) is the amount that the system is saying I have used ADDITIONAL to the regular usage. There is definitely a bos up here.

This can also be confirmed with the Afrihost session info which shows only 18Gb used between 25 Feb and 1 Mar while the Raw logs show almost 32Gb (my entire monthly usage) for just this period.

This has been my ongoing experience that my usage is way more on the stats site than my recorder measure. I have given up protesting.

I did see another thread on this somewhere, perhaps yours. It is a real worry - this isn't small change, we're talking 8Gb overbilling on an account that uses 30Gb. In addition, I had to use another ISP just to get online since it's still not fixed!

I can only imagine how this will affect heavy users when the 50/100Mb accounts go live.

Just bumping the thread - my Afrihost is still down and the problem persists 4 days later. I have received 1 phone call from Afrihost and can only assume that nobody at Afrihost actually understands the problem yet. They have helped themselves to my bank account however.
