Afrihost VDSL line speed upgrade botched ... no help yet

It may not be commissioned yet?

Was installed mid March. Has now been enabled from what I can gather as the ADSL checker only recently started reflecting 20/40meg availability.

Edit: actually saw it being installed there was an army of Telkom engineers and I spoke to them. Very cool to see it all getting connected.

Was pulling your leg

So whatever "line speed upgrade" was carried out yesterday - it has broken my DSL properly.

Tried 3 different accounts (AH, Axxess and WA), all connect on an ADSL2+ modulation with 15.3Mbps profile, line syncs, but zero IP connectivity. It's dead.

Also tried with both my old trusty D-Link DSL-2640U and new Zyxel VMG1312. Same story.

At least I know the root cause is not on my side.

Looking forward to discovering what is/was broken.

McD will give you a shout Monday morning :)

Maybe you should try this step?

https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/ADSLVERIFY_NEW/

I did read a lot of people that after being upgraded you should use the link above before it starts working.

Worth a shot. Maybe you should call and ask to see if you can get the order number that was allocated when you applied for the upgrade. Afrihost should have gotten this since you did the upgrade through them.

The Telkom technicians have very little VDSL expertise, and, in my experience, don't carry the equipment necessary to test VDSL lines.

They only carry a little USB ADSL modem with them.

Afriman - it's a bit lame when your own support team try email me today saying that Telkom now say the line only supports 4096kbps ADSL and it must be "downgraded" to "stabilize" the line (ticket FRR-884-68047 refers).

ROFL.

That's more than a joke.

I've been on 10Mbps for the past year in my current home with excellent line stats, the Telkom ADSL checker recently confirmed up to 40 meg availability (telkomadslsitecheck.jpg), and your own support team verified this via ticket KYE-708-83732. This would be expected after upgrades were done by installing an MSAN/ISAM in the street mid March. Notwithstanding I saw it with my own eyes and spoke to the Telkom technicians on the day who confirmed this verbally.

Come on guys - does the left hand not talk to the right hand ? Bloody poor.

Still no ADSL connectivity after this botched line speed upgrade. Going on for 3 days now.

10 -> 20 -> 4 ?

Really. Just no.

McD - thank you so much for helping !

I spoke to someone from Telkom this morning, and between then, now and sending you my details I just came home to this incredible picture:
VDSL-yeah_baby.jpg

Over 50Mbps Down / 17Mbps Up theoretically attainable !

Holy cr@p.

And this is the new MSAN/ISAM making it happen:

Tears of joy !

PE gets (French) ISAM and not (Chinese) MSAN units.

Intelligent Services Access Manager
Multi-Service Access Node

Same result...

Can you do a speed test ?

I want to see what real world speeds you are getting

Not great - seems a bit all over the show on AH capped.

Ranging from 15.6Mbps down to 8Mbps on MTN CT speedtest server.

Will try on WA shortly.

Local speedtests:

WA free account flying - 15 down, almost 2 up:

AH capped 7 down, almost 2 up

That's a bit sad tbh.

I expected as much.

At least your line is connected though... i'm still waiting for mine to sync.

I suspect that you might need to drop that speed a little more, nice upload though !

I am having the exact same problem with my recent botched VDSL upgrade via Afrihost.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this ?

Similar problem over here after migrating to Afrihost.
Initially I needed a cancelled lined reactivated. However before the new number was active I was somehow using the old owners 2mbps adsl line (Phone calls not working plus no dial tone) - just sort of checked by chance if there would be some miracle adsl connection.. and viola there was haha. Okay so 1 week later telkom technician comes out and gives me my new number and 'activates' the ADSL on my new telkom number - I placed an order for 4mbps but ended up getting 2mbps installed instead... anyway.. On his way out he mentions that the exchange has been upgraded to platinum/diamond whatever and we can now get 20/40mb VDSL. SO now ive migrated to afrihost, and on my client zone it shows the line has been upgraded to 20mbps VDSL and when calling Telkom they confirm the same. BUT its still syncing at 2mbps on my router?? The afrihost guy says the line is not syncing at all and it shouldnt even connect as my VDSL router is not L2TP comaptible....
Anybody out there able to shed any light or give any advice as to a way forward??

Could you please mention what router you have and what your router stats are?
