So I knew this would not be easy. Murphy's law rule 1725.

Asked for my line to be upgraded to VDSL 20meg and (after waiting more than the std. 48 hours) it seems it has been botched.

I have a new Zyxel VGM1312-B10A with factory settings, which worked fine until today on ADSL 10meg.

The Profile it reports when getting sync has now been set to:

ADSL2+ Annex A
Traffic Type: ATM Mode

Capture-2.jpg

And while the modem is showing connection to Afrihost and syncing at a weird 15.321 Mbps downstream, no data is being sent or received.

My understanding is that this is probably a port bugger up, the profile should have been set to VDSL2 Annex B, PTM mode.

The AH Clientzone still shows "10 meg sync" although it now reflects I should have a 20 meg VDSL line. Line testing using the clientzone fails.

All requests for help via support and Afrireps .... are silent.

I suspect this will take a long, painful time to resolve.:(

Afriguy/Afriman - dropped you a PM to this thread to track resolution. Please get someone from technical involved.

So Afrihost support call centre guy (very helpful) contacts telkom who say "we can only get a 15Mbps sync tell the client".

What was the point of both a) verifying with the Telkom ADSL checker that 20/40meg is available and b) confirm with AH support earlier in the week that this is the case, and then buying a VDSL moden/router.

I called BS.

Live right next door to brand new MSAN they installed, router reports attainable speeds of >27Mbps on ADSL 2+, and line stats are uber healthy.

This despite the fact they haven't even enabled a VDSL2 profile.

Oh geez this should be fun.

In the meantime - ZERO internet.

Do you have your DSL Line with Telkom or Afrihost.
If Afrihost, did you try the ClientZone , under your DSL Line, Tweak My Line Button?

This should resync your line..

Yip, with AH (thanks for the tip).

Both test my line and tweak my line tools fail and say "contact support".

Earlier this week both the Telkom ADSL checker and AH support confirmed the line supports 20/40 meg speeds. I live less than 700m from the new MSAN installed mid March.

I am now officially in ADSL hell, that space between Afrihost and Telkom where good lines go to die.

Oh, your modem should be connected first before you try the Tweak My Line... Mabe you also have the Authentication Problem that was happening this hole week cross country. Not sure if you followed the Forms.. My line was also dead 4 times this week. Yesterday it was off for hole day. But AfriGuy and AfiMan contacted me after my Post in correct form. They did help me out and even today reply again to make sure my line is still on.. Sometimes they are busy, sometimes they get back to you very quick..

Thanks bud. Appreciate the advice.

Will wait for AfricaGuy/Man to get on top of it.

Suspect someone at Telkom screwed the pooch here properly.

Nope. Afrihost has authentication issues due to problems with their service provider - MTN.

Understand that bit, am referring to the VDSL profile allocation (lack thereof) and Telkom insisting they have "upgraded" my line to ADSL2+ on the new MSAN.

Doesn't work with VDSL.

In addition I was in the same situation as the OP, and I got Telkom to reconfigure the port myself. It was configured incorrectly and it was like there was no layer 3 connectivity although I had a gateway assigned.

Took a day or two to sort out.

Thanks, very helpful.

Was your line with Telkom ? Not sure how AH will go about asking them to reconfigure the port but am hopeful !

I wouldn't blame the ISP... they can't do anything.

There is no support for VDSL

I moved my line over to them, what else must I do ? All first level support is via AH. Hopefully they will sort it out.

No, it is with AH. But I called Telkom directly and asked them to reconfigure it. This is for VDSL and not ADSL2+ btw. I just explained the issue, told them its the port and they fixed it.

The issue here could be a messup at the port. Just also bear in mind that Telkom are now allowing 20Mbps service on ADSL2+. So you won't necessarily change your modulation method, unless you are connected to an MSAN which offers VDSL service.

Can you please reply to the PM you sent me with your line number so I can investigate further? This could be a general line fault. As far as I can tell 20Mbps on ADSL2+ can be a little up and down in terms of sync as well.

PM replied with line number. Thanks man.

Street has new MSAN. Can't see why VDSL would not be allocated.
