Hi

My internet connections seems to be really slow, see below for ping stats

Local server.

--- www.news24.com ping statistics ---
45 packets transmitted, 44 received, 2% packet loss, time 279454ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 112.008/1088.194/1670.237/334.521 ms, pipe 2

--- www.l.google.com ping statistics ---
19 packets transmitted, 18 received, 5% packet loss, time 31998ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 782.121/1157.624/1545.742/219.487 ms, pipe 2

International server is timing out.

--- www.cnn.com ping statistics ---
36 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 35255ms

Is anyone else experiencing issues?

Sadly enough, I believe Afrihost are going down the ******* as an ISP. From what I've read on these forums they may very well be bleeding subscribers but maybe I'm wrong. Depending on how this month goes, I may very likely be switching at the end of it.

I'm on uncapped @ Afrihost - now on the IS backbone and all is ok I think.

54ms ping to news24
26ms to Igoogle
no reply from cnn.com either, but the website loads albeit slowly

would like to add a +1 to this thread... Afrihost is ridiculously slow. Cheap but not worth it as you'll feel like your using a 14.4 modem again :( can't stream anything even at low quality and everything is just soooooooooooooooooo slow :( not always but very often

You guys that are slow at the moment have probably been hit whit the Guinsoo's hammer of throttling death. You can fight back with wallet of change.

that's the plan. I've always used two ISP's, one for gaming and Afrihost for downloading and youtube... but now Afrihost gonna have to get outta here.

Speed is crazy slow

If you ask me, the problem isn't with Afrihost, but rather with their upstream provider: IS
IS is shaping people to the ground as soon as they are in the top 50% (4Mbps+) users or top 20% (384/512kbps) users

I find these policies ridiculous, since they don't have a threshold on the amount of GB that you have to exceed before you're being shaped. Or at least none that I know of.
