I was checking what packages are available for my house (I already have Pure Fibre 50/50 with Afrihost/Vuma) and on the sign up page I noticed there are new packages and even my current package is significantly cheaper.

I logged in to client zone to see if I can switch package and I can't. I can only upgrade to more expensive ones which do not match those on the sign up page (100MB line is more than the 500MB line).

I enquired with their WhatsApp support who had a look and told me to cancel and then re-apply to the same package (Pure Fibre 50/50) to get the new price (downtime is going to be a pain).

To me this is fishy. If there have been price decreases existing clients should get them automatically. It's like they have new packages and just leaving their loyal customers at the old higher rates.

This is nothing new. Also, will they allow you to downgrade without paying a fee?

Sorry for wrong forum. If a mod could please move thread to the Afrihost support one.

I can't downgrade to anything! I have to cancel and then reactivate and I really don't want a few days downtime (WFH).

I'm paying R997 for the same package advertised as R669? What kind of scam is this?
Scam?
It's a black friday promo driven by vumatel for new installations/connections and re-connections, and most ISPs are running it.
Almost the same as last years promo but the difference is that this one doesn't apply to migrations.

So 669 for a month?

First 2 months free then R669pm until you cancel or change (upgrade/downgrade) your package.
....and existing customers don't have access to these prices. Fck that. If I'm cancelling, I'm not rejoining with Afrihost again.

Same with all ISPs.
Vuma wants new signups with the BF deals and unfortunately it doesn't benefit existing customers or customers that want to switch.

I think @websquadza is the only ISP that has a separate BF deal which looks good if you really want to switch.

Fkn skelms, I've been paying close to a grand for years.

Unfortunately Afrihost can't do anything, it is up to Vuma, complain to them :)

If Afrihost can’t contact Vuma, how do they get communications from them

Apparently via some ticketing portal.

This is one of my gripes. Last week, my connection went down, and after, 30min, I queried it. Turns out it was planned maintenance and the area would be down fro. 10pm - 8am, very sorry.

I asked why they did not inform us, they said Vuma did not tell them.

6 months ago, at the start and end of loadshedding, my connection would drop. This carried on for almost 2 weeks. No feedback from Afrihost, they see that I'm back online and glad to be of service. LOL

Neighbourhood watch group eventually found out it's because Vumatel batteries failed.

So, communication is lacking, as is effort from Afrihost. If I had to cancel my current package to take up this special, it won't be with Afrihost.

Well if Vuma are not communicating these things with their ISP's seems like that is an issue internally at Vuma which needs to be addressed, outside partners can tell them to start communicating better but that won't do anything unless internally it is dealt with by the correct parties
I'm always notified if MetroFibre goes down with Afrihost, I get an SMS and push notification from the app on my phone
