AfriNIC now a regional Internet registry

good morning sunshine...they have been for a while now. but then again itweb is about 1 lightyear behind what really happens
 
No he was posting a link to the ITWeb article...the ITWeb article may or may not have been about that press release. The point is, it's still old news. AfriNic has been going for a while now.

Nothing to excuse - you were quite correct as was the article. If you'd like a brief history of events they're as follows:

30 Sept 2004 - ICANN awards provisional approval upon condition of revised application for full recognition.

Prior 21 Feb 2005 there were 3 RIRs serving the region (APNIC, ARIN, and RIPE NCC). There after all RIR services provided by the aforementioned 3 were transferred to AfriNIC. Only then did they become a fully functional RIR.

14 March 2005 - AfriNIC submits application for recognition as the official RIR.

8 April 2005 - Recognition awarded. AfriNIC only then becomes official RIR.
 
but you haven't done your punishment yet :shock:
go and use 56k dialup for 1 week and you will be forgiven ;)
