The astute among you may remember an earlier post (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/search.php?searchid=16858104) by me about game-spot.co.za. At the time many asked about why that name was used and other similar comments and complaints. To explain: That website was an experiment to see if local gamers would be accepting of a website derived from an international source and also a test for using Wordpress as a publishing tool, in preparation for Afrogamer. Ultimately, most people were accepting of the idea and I received many encouraging comments and a few emails. Afrogamer went live in February and has been doing okay since then. But now it's reached the point where i need help to update the site and review games. I'd like to extend an invitation to the members of this forum to do just that.

Afrogamer.com is looking for some quality people looking to break into the gaming journalism gig. As Afrogamer is a part of the Eurogamer network, we use their feed as a news wire service. The selected individual will review games and post news updates as they happen.

The position will be on a trial basis and be unpaid during that time period, but you will keep any games you review for the site.

If you're interested, email me at info@afrogamer.com and we'll take it from there.

I remember the whole Gamespot conundrum discussed in the previous thread... :D

Awesome idea though. Would LOVE to be a gaming journo, but I don't have the time unfortunately. I do, however, have a buddy who is totally hooked on games and would jump at the opportunity of doing something like this. Would give give him a shout and point him to this thread.

If you want this site to really go big, you'll have to get a custom-developed site to get away from the generic blog-look of the current site. Look at sites like Gamespot and Gametrailers - they have their own unique identities and you can immediately recognize them upon opening them. Afrogamer has the potential to go big, so go really big and get a custom site developed... ;)

@FarligOpptreden

Thanks for the kind words. As far a custom built CMS is concerned, there just isn't the money for it. The good news is thanks to the association with Eurogamer we can use their custom built system, but the decision was taken against that, because that system is too complex for one/two individuals to maintain, according to Eurogamer's Chief Tech Officer. And at the moment Afrogamer is just me. The plan is too migrate to that system at a future date, once there is a larger staff compliment and some ad money coming in. Hence the call for interested parties.

Change the name to Afrigamer, Afrogamer sounds like a Afro Samurai fansite man.
