Love these debates, gives you a holistic idea of how decided or united we are as south africans ... wish i could download them as podcasts, any idea if this is available somewhere?

You should have heard them before the devolution and ‘Africanisation” started (why not leave ONE radio station untouched?). It’s been downhill since John Perleman (he left), Jeremy Maggs (he left) and now the current mouth-breather with his inarticulate guests and callers together with his propensity of cutting those off with anything critical to say about the ANC. I think they may be building-up to removing it altogether.

and Google didn't direct you here?
maybe it's time for a new Google for you:).
In fact the top of SAFM homepage has a floating thingie with a link to podcasts & RSS...

ended up there but was hoping for an opportunity to search all podcasts ... I do not after 8 debate there .. but will try, thanx

I used to wake up to this on my clock radio... but kept falling asleep.. Its not a debate.. 702 at that time and after 9am is far superior. Also remeber years ago when Eddie from Ficksburg would phone to say he was being deprived of rain or surrounded. And there was also some dude from Mayfair.. It was entertaining then

Eddie and that “Blood of Jesus” guy.(he didn’t say anything sensible, but was good for a laugh). When I first started listening to the ‘After 8 Debate’ I was frequently angered by Perleman’s stance. On dispassionate consideration however, I came to the conclusion that it was balanced and unbiased. It took years to build the credibility of the ‘After 8 Debate’ program. This credibility can be destroyed in a matter of months for short-term political gain and the program could end-up as a mouthpiece for the ANC government.

I know that all services are in decline and so do the majority of callers. You have a situation where callers are, almost without exception, complaining (justifiably) and the panellist in the hot seat spends his time thinking-up creative excuses and glib reasons why not to fix things (or telling downright lies). It seems to me that SAfm could raise the number of questions formulated to evoke positive responses (how to fix things) from callers. This would also take the pressure off self-serving panellists intent on covering their butts and allow them to apply that creative energy to offering solutions of their own. The after 8 debate service could be a real instrument for change offering solutions. There must be a lot of talent out there.

Jeremy Maggs vanishing was noticeable. There are also strange and unknown voices in other regular slots. My wife was spitting in rage some months back because they had done away with a classical music slot she usually listens to (I don’t listen to classical music). There are also changes in the backroom staff. When a slot has finished, the announcer usually does a litany of thank-you’s to technical staff. You get used to the rhythm, even though you don’t listen. There have been changes and omissions here as well – the rhythm has been broken so you pay attention.

I looked for a replacement and 702 was my first choice. You can’t receive it in KZN.
