after donating blood/blood sample, bad feeling.

for the life of me, I can never understand this,
am I unique in feeling so cr@p after donating blood or giving a blood sample?

as far back as I can remember Ive always felt absolutely terrible, after donating blood, or even a tiny amount for a Blood test.
is this normal, or a symptom of something worse?

I mean once when I donated, I nearly passed out, felt so cr@p and bad,
surely nobody else goes through this?
or is it my fear of needles making my body sick afterwards.
 
Loosing 500ml of blood and feeling a bit queasy afterwards, is normal. Quit a bit of blood pressure and glucose you're losing.

What blood samples are you referring to? That might just be a squeamish reaction to needles???

could be, did HIV test, blood glucose and the usual battery of test for life insurance plan.
but this cr@p feeling, cant be everybody else has the same thing, or is it just my reaction to blood.
(get nosebleeds once a season , so why dont I feel bad then?)

had it since I was a Kid, hated needles, is this just a manifestation of it when I'm a lot older?

any tips for getting over ones fear of needles?

or don't tell me i'm a hemophiliac and Ive never been diagnosed before.
 
From donating blood 500ml yes I used to feel a bit iffy. Though I've not donated in 8 years. Normal blood tests not so much.
 
If your iron and haemoglobin levels are already suboptimal, or if you have low blood pressure then you will feel terrible after giving blood. If you have higher blood pressure or your haematocrit is on the high end of the normal range or more, then you'll just feel a bit lethargic. More likely to do with blood pressure though. You should be well hydrated when you give blood.

If you're getting the same reaction just from giving blood samples, then it's just a case of needing to put on your big boy shoes.

Nah dude after the last time, where I passed out, my entire arm felt like it caught on fire. I was like nope sorry. I had given 55 before hand without any issues, the last time was bloody terrible.
 
I think I've only felt not great once, and that was when I hadn't eaten before. Had a coke and a smile after, felt much better.
Typically feel OK after.

thought of that, and did get something to drink beforehand, as I know I always have this reaction,
so I actively avoid donating as last time I nearly passed out,

but a tiny little sample? hows that possible?

or again, its all in my head, I hate needles anyway so maybe thats what makes most sense?

I've donated over a 100 units and done quite a few tests. Only felt cr@p a few times, but normally I'm fine. Only quirk I have is a mild shudder and I roll my toes into fists, at the exact moment they insert that thick pipe they call a needle into my arm, when I donate.
 
That’s what the cheap juice and cookie is for. The bad taste in your mouth will overpower any other feeling you might have.

Might have just been the nurse that did something bad
 
You didn't drink the juice/tea, and eat the cookie they gave you?

As a side note, your body generally doesn't respond well to losing blood, as you almost always have the exact same amount pumping through your veins and arteries at any given time. I reckon anything upsetting that balance will affect the rest of the ecosystem until it's blood supply is replenished by your bones.
