Two server's:

SERVER - Windows 2003 R2
KTBACKUP - WINDOWS 2003 R2
NO exchange server

I had to redo the main server (SERVER) to remove corrupted application installed from previous IT staff.
Removed roles: Active directory, DNS, DHCP, Terminal services and File Server from SERVER
then re-installed Server 2003 R2 on new hdd
joined domain as SERVER
dcpromo - install active directory
restarted both server's

KTBACKUP still had rid, pdc, infrastructure, schema roles

So I transferred the roles to SERVER
checked SERVER it was set as global catalogue
restarted both servers
Wanted to change some group policy settings on SERVER for users.
I see under %systemroot%/sysvol/domain/ NO POLICY FOLDERS CREATED, but they are created on KTBACKUP
NETLOGON folder also missing.

ANY IDEAS?

On SERVER i created a test group and moved my profile name to that group and created a policy.
The policy folder then appeared under %systemroot%/sysvol/domain

still no default policy folders.

You have to wait a bit more...
:-)
for replication to finish 100%.

You can compare the sizes of the "sysvol" folders on both DC's to get an indication of how far it is to go.

The "netlogon" & "policy" shares will only appear once replication is 100% complete and AD is 100% happy.

Also check event viewer (system) on SERVER & look for:

Source: LsaSrv
Type: Information
Event ID: 29223
Description: This server is now a Domain Controller

If you do not see it then your AD replication is not yet done.

Hi all,

You can work out the steps:

1). Install the new group policy editor for AD.
2). The security options which are shown in the Group Policy are actually populated from a file called Sceregvl.inf which can be found in: c:\windows\inf. Probably this file on the machine where you're editing policy is*Either incomplete or has become corrupted.
3). One more thing, Security Policy changes in*the local GPO are actually made against the local SAM directly.

Hope it works.
