Hi
I am currently looking at all the posiblitys for a 24/7 internet connection, and i have a question about ADSL, after the cap has been reached, how bad does the international limited hit you, i mean you can still at least view international websites, Right ?

It largely depends, but I can imagine that from most responses you're going to get a "no, not really". Once you hit your cap, you can kiss your international internet goodbye.

That said, you CAN still use local HTTP proxies to at least view websites and download files from international websites (generally HTTP only), but stock ADSL is useless afterwards.

If you hit your cap early enough in the month, it's not so bad, but toward the end of the month... well... ja. The problem is not actually a lack of bandwidth; can still get around 4KB/sec, but with something like 75-90% packet loss which really fouls up anything even remotely interactive (like web browsing).

Once I hit my cap I was unable to view any international web sites.

You just aren't patient enough. You can usually load an international site after about 200 tries, over the course of a few hours. [:D]

Loading a site after about 200 tries will stretch my patience to its limits, I don't think I am prepared to take that risk. (thousands of rands of damage [:D])

Just for the complete picture:

You can buy another 3GB with your credit card @R219 - I believe it is a phone call away.

Question is which phone number, and can it be done after hours.

Fact is, we should have had mega Gigabytes per month at the rate Telkom charges.

South Africa needs World Class Broadband at World Competitive Prices.
