After tower maintenance speed is limited

Rosebank went off around 0:00 last night and only came back on in the morning.

Since then there is nomore of the full speed on 256 Package of almost 30Kb/s for a meg or so and then slowing down to 6 or 7 Kb/s

Now it just goes to 8Kb/s and stays there, the whole day today

I see many towers are scheduled for down time for the next week or so, so be prepared for slowness
 
Seeing that maintenance
weekend has started, do any1 on the following towers wish to report back ?
Linksfield - 08 April
Kemptonpark - 08 April
Hurleyvale - 08 April
Johannesburg International - 08 April
Bedfordview - 08 April
Marlboro - 08 April

dbnnet, you guys on the south coast have the advantage of ProAsm in your area. Any idea what this is about to fix/remove/improve ?
 
As far as I know this so called "fix" is to do with the
introduction of the new commercial 3.5 Ghz solution that basically
(if I understand it right) sits on the same infrastructure.
I somehow wonder if someone has got it wrong and it is now using
MyWireless's back-haul bandwidth etc. etc.
Luckily ProAsm is here in Durban to get it done right :)
 
errrrm..RichardG...iBurst don't even have their own incidents, why in hell would they have Sentech's ? :D :D Oh, sorry, in your quest to up that post count, you didn't see this is the MyWireless forum, nor did you see the detail in my sig. :D
 
I don't know what maintenance they did in CT this weekend but, but my torrent download speed is consistently two to three times as fast as before.
Which means i'm now downloading at 30kbps as opposed to 10-15kbps (on a 128kbps package). Either they improved something or i'm the only remaining sentech client in my area.

it is still K*k slow and overpriced though! I read in the UK they now have 2Mbps internet for GBP 19.99 a month.

My speed has been slowly (very slowly) improving this year so far. My connection is rock solid in terms of stability (my connection outlasts WinXP uptime).

They performed some maintenence on the 10April on the tower I connect to, and now speed is exactly what I would expect from a "256K" (sorry, "Professional") connection. I have'nt had much time to perform any speed tests, but my torrent client has pulled about 3 gigs in 2 days, download counted only. Nice. :)

Anyways the latest 'mods' are done on the backhauls and is mainly to improve latency and overall speed and of couse gearup for the biznet stuff.
Durbs was done last night.

Ive found a few sites are not thottled. Just downloaded 17MB of windows updates. Only 1 of the 6 downloads got thottled. Luckily that was a 2MB patch and 1.6MB of that came at full speed
 
Has anyone been able to p2p lately after these upgrades ?

Emule was merrily humming away @ 7-8KB/s, till about 2 days go. Now I cannot use Emule and Browse at the same time. Emule wont download anything.

Weird, I've just checked my DU Meter (monitoring Dial-Up only... of course) and I've managed to do 9.6GB (combined upload and download) since this Sunday, all on p2p. This on the Woodmead tower. Maybe I'm hogging all the bandwidth! :D
 
qDot, these upgrades are purley between the Tower and the Hub, ie the backhaul, which is basically a dumb thing and does not know the difference between p2p and an elephant. :)

Luke7777 if there is any relaxing, the chances are it will only effect 256k packages and above.

dbnnet, sounds great as thats exactly what we are supposed to get.
Basically all we did regarding the upgrade other than the actual upgrade, is the backhaul software now runs in a Ramdrive rather than a Harddrive.

Back to normal again,

I left Emule running lastnight and this morning It was running at around 8KB/s and I can browse at the same time.

I'll paste in case they decide to change their webpage :D

To this end Sentech is in the process of changing it’s bandwidth management platform to allow better sharing of it’s International bandwidth to all it’s users. Key to the changes will be the ability for customers to be able to utilise all spare bandwidth during the slow or off-peak periods.
