Aftermarket Cruise Control

Has anyone fitted an aftermarket cruise control to their vehicles?
I may be getting a Chev Ute soon, but I don't think they offer that as an option.

First question should actually be though, do those who have cruise control actually enjoy using it on the long road?
Is it worthwhile forking out extra for it?
 
From my experience with cruise control the roads are just to busy for it , no sooner do you set it than you have to disable it .
To many people on the roads do not adhere to the keep left pass right rules .
Cruise control is a bit distracting to be honest .
 
I think I probably drive with it on more than I do with it off. Every time I get into the wife's car I go to enable it with the steering wheel controls and end up changing the radio station before remembering it doesn't have it. :o

Yes I always use cruise control on long trips and on the highway you'll find you save a lot when it comes to fuel consumption.
The other day i drove 300km on the N1 and only had to slow down to stop at toll booths, otherwise once you at speed and people are using the lanes correctly you don't need to touch and pedals.

I dunno about after market cruise controls, they probably make it but i dunno if i would trust it as I would a factory fitted device.
 
I use cruise control all the time. It's one of those things I never knew I needed until I had it. Obviously I can manage without it, but when I've got it, I use it.
 
I dunno, but cruise control is not something that I would have retrofitted.

Watched a review of the auto-drive feature on the Tesla X, I drive a lot for work, being able to do stuff and the car just drives you places would be great even if its only along the highway for now.
 
I use mine all the time, very handy feature. It is more handy on the highway, but it is also useful for places like 80km/h urban roads. It is also useful to prevent yourself from getting a fine. You set your speed to say 125 in a 120 zone, and you know you will not get fined.

EDIT: Would I have aftermarket cruise control fitted? Probably not, I'd worry that it would not work that well. Or would cause other problems.
 
Barely use it, unless it's a long road trip but that's once or twice a year.
As someone mentioned, I find our roads way too busy.
Not the ones that speed up and slow down for you, that would be great. Otherwise I can take it or leave it.

I do quite a bit of long drives, lots of family live out of town.
Yip, I'm a bit skeptical about retrofit...but I'll ask around a bit more and see if there are people who have retrofit systems that work well.
 
I use it all the time. Is far to easy to stray over the speed limit in my car, seems to naturally like cruising at like 140. It also helps greatly with fuel consumption and gets you there sooner as humans are terrible at keeping a constant speed, something you'll notice when using CC, you'll pass someone who will then roar past at 140, rinse, repeat.

No I would never fit a generic aftermarket system, if it's a factory fitted option or dealer fitted then yes it's worth it though. As a note, the Chev CC on my mom's Cruze is the worst I've ever used, can't keep a constant speed very well but not sure if that's the system or the teeny engine. It's much better on my dad's Captiva though but it's auto and 3.5L so it bloody well should be.
 
Also don't think I would fit an after market system.

I have found that I use the speed limiter more than the cruise control. Haven't had fine since using it on a daily basis. I set the limiter to just over the speed limit and keep my foot on the accelerator. If I need to overide it it quickly, there is a pause button on the steering wheel or I simply put my foot flat on the accelerator.
 
I realise that I only answered half the question - yes, I use it and like it, but no I'd not bother with an aftermarket one.
 
When I had a car with Cruise Control I used it all the time..

As for Aftermarket, nope I would never ever do that..

Plus, I'm not sure something like a Chev Ute has all the right electronics in its management systems to support an aftermarket cruise control system.

It is *** on a manual anyways. Use it on my old W124 Auto all the time.

Sounds like all I need to do is get a little cushion to put my heel on so that it doesn't get sore from being in the same position for hours :-)... I'm sure I can get a tannie to knit me one for cheap cheap
