hi

does anyone have any experience with aftermarket windscreens? in particular Autoboys / GrandMark glass?

My polo tdi is insured with Santam. they've approved autoboys to do the job, with no excess. That means fitting an aftermarket windscreen that's been made in china.

I have the option of taking it to Glassfit and having an original VW windsreen or perhaps a Shatterprufe windscreen fitted - that will incur a R500 excess. I wouldnt be surprised if the original is made in china too.

I realise that a windscreen is important for safety, so i do want the safest option.

Anyone know if there is any difference?

I'd go for the Glasfit with the R500 excess.

This is my personal opinion and remains as that.
1) Better quality
2) No flaws when looking through the glass
3) Structural more sound- your w/s is a critical part of the vehicle structure and to reduce this is not a good idea
4) Less road and wind noise

Shatterprufe is the best option.

Thanks

for the R500 excess i can take the Shatterprufe one or insist on the original VW branded one...
