I wanted to put life into an old P4 system to perhaps give it to a family member. I found an AGP card with HDMI functionality online - a Sappire Radeon HD 3450 512mb.

I havent been able to get this card to work in the pc, I basically get no picture at all, not even during boot, and the system does POST. I took the card to a computer shop and the guy there tried it in an AGP board he had and got the exact same results. I then sent the card back to the supplier, they did testing and reported the card to be fine, and have sent it back to me again. I am still unable to get any picture from the card though.

The problem cannot be in windows since there would still have been picture while booting? The motherboard definitely supports 8X, but I am not sure of what voltages the card or the motherboard use, and although I have installed a few AGP cards before, I wouldnt call myself an expert.. I have also tried using both the dvi (via vga adapter) and hdmi ports.

Motherboard = AOpen s661FXm

Any help will be much appreciated.

The led does not light up, but, I have an old geforce card which does work in this pc, and when I put that card in the led also does not light up, but I get picture and everything works fine..

I see the MoBo has on board graphix, is it not booting with this as the default.

I know on one of my older PC's I had to use the on board for checking bios etc. and set the AGP as my main screen in windows.

The onboard works.. but when I put the card in the onboard gfx is automatically disabled. I have been all over the BIOS, trying to manually set AGP speed, trying to change voltages and whatever I can, but when I put the card back in I just get nothing, and then I put the geforce in and it works 100%.

I see that there is a bios update that came out a few months ago. Might be worth a try.

My P5K didn't like my CPU until I updated the bios.

I am going to try the BIOS update, and then I also want to try a DVI cable (instead of using a vga cable with an adapter, if these dont work, Ill have to assume its a compatibility issue..

From what I recall, the later AGP cards were 1.5 volt only (AGP4x and 8X), but the motherboard may only be 1x or 2x and not support 1.5 volt cards - this is probably your issue...

As I mentioned, the board does support 8x.. The card is 0.8v, but can operate using 1.5v, the slot is 1.5v, so it should work. I have tried the bios update, still no luck. If I resell the card theres a good chance it might not work for that person either..
