Human line judges dressed in crisp striped shirts and white bottoms will be absent from Wimbledon this year. Instead, 12 cameras will stand courtside to call whether the ball lands in or out.

The Grand Slam tennis championship, which opens on 30 June, will fully adopt electronic line calling courtesy of Sony Group subsidiary Hawk-Eye Innovations. The Basingstoke, England-based company uses artificial intelligence to pinpoint a ball’s trajectory to supply gameplay analysis and refereeing across 25 sports including baseball and soccer.

Let's add some AI players. Job done

The AO YouTube live stream has been having it.

Can you imagine John McEnroe having a go at AI line judges. It really would be Rage Against the Machine

I'll show myself out.

Its sad - the line judges made tennis interesting. Now its just a clinical artificial formality sponsored by stupid grocery delivery services and online betting empires. Soon the ball-boys and -girls will be replaced by ball sucking robots, and the ref by a robot. And finally spectators watching from their homes using VR goggles.
