air con advice

I want to get a split air con for the sleeping room, 18000BTU needed, I want a soft start one, so I suppose it will be a inverter one, but it must be able to blow wind softly inside and it must not sound like a diesel engine.

Any advice will be appreciated.

That describes pretty much any Aircon from the last 30 years?
 
18000BTU is pretty large for a bedroom, overkill I would think unless it's the size of a living/dining room.

Other than that, all air cons these days have a "soft wind" function. Midea calls it breezeless but each brand calls it something else.

Not really its for rooms between 24m2 and 36m2.
The inverter type is also capable of running at a variable speed so oversizing isn't a problem.
I have an 18Kbtu midea in my bedroom.

Oversizing isn't a bad thing. I do tend to think manufacturers underestimate the room sizes. When we had a 12000 put into our master (20m2) the installer even queried why such a big aircon and turned out he was kinda right. That things has never seen a fan speed beyond 25%.

Edit: That said, even in my living room I have a 12000btu. Afaik 18000 and above requires an isolation switch and dedicated power point

Get the standard Daikin. Have both the Sensira and Perfera models and they're both equally quiet.
 
Some of them have a sleep mode. Which is basically a lower fan and not so aggressive on automatic trying to maintain temperature.

That said the sound of a loud fan noise puts me to sleep instantly lol.

I would guess it's more efficient than a bigger unit but that is just an assumption. Normally if a unit was undersized, you would be running it on full and even then barely getting anything. I would tend to agree less fan speed is less fan noise.

Something to probably note though, all my windows have UV tinting which was a major help, especially in the living area which got the late after sun. Easy DIY project.

Also add in that bedroom vs living room usage (in general) is day vs night temperatures as well as people moving around and/or being awake and active vs sleeping; so bedroom just needs a bit of cooling in general vs a lot for a living room.

Rather oversize than undersize. I learnt this the hard way. Oversizing gets the room to the set temperature so it can run at lower power (and therefore less noise). Undersizing risks running at full power constantly because it can't get to the set temp...

For sure, I'm saying 18000 is maybe a step beyond oversizing.

I know, but as stated I have 12k units in both living and bedroom. Bedroom is 20 squares and living is 32 squares. I will admit though that if i didn't have tinting on my living room windows then the 12k unit likely would be insufficient.

OP is mentioning a sleeping room though. Doesn't specify size but unless that is one massive bedroom I can't see why go bigger (+- 4.5k extra)
 
No split unit (non- and inverter) should sound like a diesel engine. If it does, something is wrong and be looked at.
Perhaps you have through-wall type units in mind like they used in offices in 70/80's?

Always oversize and go inverter, bigger upfront costs but you will see the saving in elec over time.
If you under size then you have no benefit as both (non and inverter) will constantly work at 100% all the time.
