So I decided that this might be the year I pull the trigger on some if not all the aircons.

I have a sunsynk 8kw with 22kw battery bank with about 6kw of panels to be increased in the future.

Anyway.

I want to pop aircons in the rooms in red. the red green room is a slightly divided but open space so its rather large.

Any suggestions I am aiming for the both cost efficient running and hopefully not to crazy to install off the bat. Likely wanna do inverter as this is better I think but just wanted to know what I should consider before diving in.

This is pretoria roof is insulated and windows seal decently to cover those points.

Also open to "smart" versions as the house is semi-autonomous at present - but not a deal breaker

Cheap as chips, and really works well.
Mmm thanks will have a look, does it really have that blue star splashed across it? can just cover that I guess

Also its in the sub 7k section 11e sars allowance can claim two for tax purposes in one shot!

Yes, it does unfortunately.

do NOT touch anything that's not an inverter. Not only is the tech as old as the hills but you'll feel it

My 4 9000 BTU Inverters in the bedroom are using less power than the 1 x 12 000 BTU old tech compressor i had in the previous house. Its just no contest.

Brand wise:

Samsung - Got these, they're excellent but very expensive.
Alliance - Had these, work very well.
Jet-Air - Got these, work very well and so far reliable.
Gree - Don't have but heard they're good.
Daikin - Bulletproof, but not cheap either.
Midea - Can't comment on this brand, new but seem to be popular in Europe from what i've seen

Note that MOST of your unknown brands are basically just OEM AC's with branding in front. There's a LOT of OEM AC's out there under different names. Not necessarily bad cause Alliance for example had lot of OEM's in their name and the ones i had worked well other than popping a compressor on the one after 2 years.

The key is also to service them as per their schedules. AC's do not like working with clogged filters. In my new house it had 3 and i installed 4 more. Get a good companty to install to its neat as well. In my last place they drilled the worst looking holes and then tried to over them up with filla and paint. I was so annoyed...

not an inverter?

Any particular reason.

im fine with higher upfront cost for long terms savings
Absolutely get an inverter Aircon.. fixed speed air cons work, but they use more electricity, less efficient etc..

I have both versions and far prefer the inverter version..

Go calculate each room square meters, which will tell you the size in BTU you require..

I can recommend acdirect for both purchases and installation, as I have used them in the past without hassle.. at the time I bought, they were by far the cheapest for what I was buying, Samsung ar4500 inverters..

I would suggest you get two units for the red/green. I bought two 18000BTU Samsung at ACDirect ( using PayJustNow).
One is the bedroom and the other one is yet to be installed in my living room. I will need another 18000BTU because My living/dining/kitchen is large with high ceiling.

The one in the bedroom can be a bit loud, but you get used to it.

Is your bedroom 20+sqm in size..?

I installed only Midea inverter A/Cs in our place. They were much less expensive than other brands and all came with Wifi, from the 9000 to the 24000btu models. 1x 9000, 1x 12000, 2x 18000 and 1x 24000btu.
The 24000btu model draws around 3000w in turbo mode and the 9000btu 900w in the same mode.

The only challenge was that one cannot buy them readily at retailers so I worked directly from the Gauteng supplier, who also put me in touch with an accredited installer.

You get those AC's that have one compressor unit that splits into multiple indoor units.

That's an option.
Whats the tipping point to consider this over single units?

Can I run one room off this whilst the rest of the house is "off" also is this efficient?

The consideration is mostly aesthetic or space saving.. the idea is that you buy say a single 36000btu compressor and that can run any combination of 9/12/18k BTU indoor units, instead of each indoor unit having a dedicated compressor..

You are not saving electricity, consumption remains the same and each indoor unit will consume up to whatever it's rated for..

The other consideration though, is the run for the linesets.. with a single compressor, you can only have one back to back install.. so installation for this setup is considerably more..

Sweet thanks so if you have 9k going it only uses that essentially then the rest make sense thanks!
